“Dark Wave,” hosted by Slicing Up Eyeballs’ Matt Sebastian, explores the darker side of classic ’80s alternative, including vintage goth, post-punk and industrial. The shows airs at 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Eastern every Sunday on Sirius XM satellite radio’s 1st Wave (Channel 33).

The most recent two episodes are also available to subscribers to stream via the Sirius XM app.

Got a request? Requests will be considered for future episodes as long as they fit the show’s format and fall generally within the 1st Wave era — and provided the host doesn’t harbor an intense dislike of the song. If there’s something you’d like to hear, drop it in the comments below.

  3. Thanks for the great show tonight, Matt!

    A little request:
    Skeletal Family – Cry Baby

  4. Nice selection this week! Soooo many favorites – Sinead and Cocteau Twins hit the top of that lovely list. Thank you!!!!

  5. Tough call tonight. The Neil Young block was great. A bunch of great seldom-heards in Hour 2 like Fang, And One, Fugazi, and Charge. But I think the shoe gaze and the last four songs push Hour 3 over the finish line. Great show tonight.

Came across an interesting side project from Chris Connelly, Martin Atkins, and David Sims. They came together to cover a Dudley Moore song. Yeah, the Arthur guy. Would like to request The Love Interest “The Horned One” mix of the song “Bedazzled”. Not sure you’ll play it, but wanted to throw it out there.

Thanks for the show. Will be listening to it all week long. Have a good one.

  6. I loved Moev and Lush tonight.
    Awesome.
    See you next week!

  7. Adriana Perez

My husband and I look forward to your show every wk. On next week’s show can you play Ministry’s “Where you at?/Crash and Burn/Twitch-Version II”?, if that’s too long “We Believe” will do. We’re excited to see Ministry on the last date of their Squirrelly Years tour in our “backyard”- Las Vegas.

    • Caught the Philly show – was AMAZING. You are going to love it. Get there early for Die Krupps & TKK, their sets were also great. Entire night was very enjoyable.

  8. “Spies In the Wires” by Cabaret Voltaire for (next after next) Sunday’s show

  9. Woke up thinking of Kitchens of Distinction – Drive that Fast or He Holds Her…

  10. To follow on the note of cover songs. I have a request of a rendition that I just remembered existed, and that would be The Flaming Lips covering Echo And The Bunnymen’s “All That Jazz/ Happy Deathmen”. I’m pretty sure it is one of the b-side’s to the Wastin’ Pigs single. Aside from my request I would like to say that thins show was fantastic. I loved the punk mixed in hours 2 and 3 then you hit us with that amazing shoegaze block. As always thank you for a great show.

  11. Amazing show last night! Thank you for playing my request Deutschmaschine by And One. I may be biased, but I think it was the best song last night B). This week I would like to request
Mephisto Walz – Dear Familiar Phantoms
Voodoo Church – Rest in Peace
    KMFDM – Godlike
I hope you have a good Memorial Day.

  12. The Passions – The Swimmer

  13. That was an awesome show last night I don’t think I could come up with a more perfect opening song. Thanks for playing my Cocteaus request. And I could not agree with you more on Nick Cave live. Saw him and the Bad Seeds in San Francisco less than two weeks ago and they were transcendent. Saw Gang of Four this past Friday and they too were amazing. Ted Leo was channeling Andy Gill. Loved the Neil Young and shoegaze blocks.

With summer around the corner how about “Kill Surf City” by JAMC on a future communion?

Have a splendid week Matt, cheers!

    • I’ll second “Kill Surf City” by JAMC! Perfect choice for ushering in summer.

    • Great call on ‘Blood Bitch’! And indeed, David did ask who was seeing the Wedding Present for the first time and let the audience know their would be no encore so as not to hurt anyone’s feelings. I was thoroughly impressed with their show from start to finish.

  14. addictedtonoise

    PiL – Careering

  15. Just popped in because I’m listening on Monday (holiday weekend, ya know?).

Love the Psychedelic Furs track – so excited Chameleons will be opening for them here at the Austin show!

  16. Phillip Renke

    Hey Matt,
Can you play Greater Than One-Peace
    Thanks

  17. Hi Matt! I just landed in Rome so haven’t listened yet, but it looks awesome!! Thank you for playing my Moev request! It’s really cool of you to take our choices into account!! Some possible suggestions for next time:.

    Bigod 20 – Like a Prayer
    NIN – Memorabilia
    Ministry – Under My Thumb

More covers yay!! Thanks again as always!! 。◕‿◕。

  18. Thank you for another awesome set of the dark stuff. Loved the cover songs, shoegaze block, punk, Nick Cave, The The, Sinead… And thank you for playing my request for JAMC – much appreciated!

A request – I first heard this on your show (thank you for turning me onto so many “new” old things):
    Liquid Liquid “Cavern”

Wishing everyone a happy last week of May.

  19. Great cover choices as usual! And the NY block was great.

    Here’s a request –

    Ministry – I See Red

    Thanks!

  20. Could you please play
“Trem Two” by Mission Of Burma
On an upcoming show. If so that would be awesome. Thanks for an amazing show every Sunday, looking forward to another great one this weekend.

  21. Great show last night, I really loved the Neil Young covers and the shoegaze block. On the note of Neil Young covers that could be featured on Darkwave, I would say almost anything off of “The Bridge- A Tribute To Neil Young” would probably suffice for a pretty good Neil Young cover block. Off of this comp I would say these would be the best suiting for the show:
    Sonic Youth- “ Computer Age”
    Loop- “ Cinnamon Girl”
    Nick Cave-“Helpless”
    Dinosaur Jr.-“ Lotta Love”
Flaming Lips -“ After The Goldrush”
    And
Psychic T.V- “Only Love Can Break Your Heart”

This comp. Is great, and these are some of the best Neil Young covers I have ever heard.
    Thank You

  22. Faust – Mamie Is Blue (1972) Apple Music + Qobuz
Ludwig Von 88 – Mike Tyson (1988) Apple Music + Bandcamp

  23. Hey Matt,
Please play Coil, “It’s in my blood” for a request :)

    Thank you Kindly,

    Peter

  24. Still hoping to hear anything from Death In June, and/or Wayne County And The Electric Chairs.
    Anything will do.

Thank you and regards from Crooklyn, New York

    Stefan Sonic

ps: I’ll be in Denver this August, visiting. Denver will never be the same again…

  25. Matt,
What a great Memorial Day weekend with this playlist. A little punky, some industrial, and shoegaze. Thank you for my request of chapter House – come heaven. The song you picked right after melted my face! lol Lush – Never -Never the drum work in both songs is great.

  26. I would like to request The Ramones – Anxiety

  27. All great throughout… but that A Certain Ratio track has sparked a burgeoning obsession!

Thanks for playing that Jane’s request!!

One other request bubbling up is Sleep by Big Black off the Racer X EP. A rocker!

    Thanks Matt and Darkwave community!

  28. Great show this week, Matt! Especially loved the opening, another great by The Fall, and closing track by A Certain Ratio. Along the way…always great to hear a favorite of mine by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds — always a highlight of the live shows? I missed them this time around sadly; do hope they tour the East Coast again soon — And actually, all of hour 3 blew me away. Time for a relisten.

  29. One of your best! A few classics — loved “Wonderwheel” and Belfegore was great to hear on here again. I loved the A Certain Ratio cover. And quite a few new bands (to me) that I am excited to discover more of — And One, Final Cut and Moev in particular!

  30. Strong finish this week. Requesting “Cabbage” by Mass for a future show.

  31. Hey Matt – just listened to this one again. Top notch this week! How about some love for the Go-Betweens? Richard Blade included them last week in his themed Thursdays “Streets of Your Town” (songs with town or city in the title) and they remain criminally underrated (Robert Forster has a new album to boot!)

They are not a “dark wave” band, however, they did produce a stone cold post-punk / lo fi classic, “Cattle and Cane” (in Nick Cave’s then London apartment no less). How about throwing that one on in a future episode?

    Thanks,

    Tony from Boston
