The Cure
“Dark Wave,” hosted by Slicing Up Eyeballs’ Matt Sebastian, explores the darker side of classic ’80s alternative, including vintage goth, post-punk and industrial. The shows airs at 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Eastern every Sunday on Sirius XM satellite radio’s 1st Wave (Channel 33).
The most recent two episodes are also available to subscribers to stream via the Sirius XM app.
Got a request? Requests will be considered for future episodes as long as they fit the show’s format and fall generally within the 1st Wave era — and provided the host doesn’t harbor an intense dislike of the song. If there’s something you’d like to hear, drop it in the comments below.

Hi Matt. Great show tonight! For your May 25th episode, can you play “Halo” by The Cure? It will be our sixth wedding anniversary on May 25th and this is the song we danced to. Thank you!
Still – the soundboard-reference cassette recording that launched 1000s of bands. Vocals barely audible, Ceremony missing several bars at the beginning, guitar and bass like nothing else, and a bunch of Birmingham university students wondering why they’re getting this band at the end of terms.
Thanks for the Damned song Matt.
Hearing “Cowboy” was an unexpected treat. Took me right back to my teenage raver days, without needing to be in a dingy warehouse with people sucking on ultraviolet pacifiers and shouting “PLUR”.
Hope anyone reading this has an amazing week!
Haha yeah those were the days(??)… from what I can remember ;) It was a blessing that digital cameras hadn’t come along yet. Underworld still sounds hella fresh to this day.
Thanks for playing my request Matt!!! Of course i turned in for the night one song before so I guess we’ll need a re-listen!
Viva Pere Ubu!!!
Hey Matt, how about playing something from the forthcoming “Mixes of a Lost World” release from The Cure? The “Warsong” version with Chino Moreno (from Deftones) is a good one! Thanks!
Second this! Cannot wait for these remixes…. :)
Thirded
Here here Matt,I told my Mom for Mothers Day to listen to DARK WAVE as part of her present, now she won’t talk to me,lol,jk!!!Still a great show and tribute to all the Mom’s.Got some bits & bobs fer ya to consider Dark Meister, all the best. M.
Buffalo-STUMP(A Fierce Pancake)
Golgotha Tenament Blues-MACHINES OF LOVING GRACE(The Crow Soundtrack)
Creeping To The Cross-THAT PETROL EMOTION(Babble)
Hey Matt – How about some early post-punk by Devo, such as “Uncontrollable Urge”?
Thanks!
Killing Joke – Psyche (Live from Ha!)
“Final Solution” by Honolulu Mountain Daffodils would be nice. Probably the definitive version of this song. Even superior to the original version imho. No? How about “Tequila Dementia” then? Thanks!
Hey Matt!
Very cool to hear ‘The Shore Down Under’ by CoX again !!
Phoenix is a great album… sometimes forget that, with all of their other releases etc.
Thanks for playing! Here’s a new request, circa 1990:
Sonic Youth // Mildred Pierce
Cheers!
-JR
Seconded!

See you next week!

Each hour had a great mix!
Here is a request (for a possible future punk block) –
Wipers – D-7
Thanks!
Can you please play “Sex On The Flag” (Jezebeelzbuttfunk Mix) by KMFDM? Thanks!
Great installment Matt…..I especially loved hour 2! Thank you for playing my Ceremony request…..soooo good!!! I mean who doesn’t love a great cover?!?! In that spirit – some possible suggestions for next time:
Sinead O’Connor – Song To The Siren (Tim Buckley cover)
Lilys – Dreams Never End (New Order cover)
The Wedding Present – High (The Cure cover)
Thanks again as always! 。◕‿◕。
Oh damn, all 3 of those are incredible. Great call Tina!
Thanks N man!!
Request ideas!
Subhumans Uk – Wake Up Screaming (1984)
Kevin Aviance – Join in the Chant (Nitzer Ebb cover)
Jane’s Addiction – I Would For You
Malhavoc – S.C.E.X (XXX-Rated) (1990)
Naked Raygun – Live Wire (1988)
Soundgarden – I Awake (1989) …. very Killing Joke, dark & oh so witchy isn’t it?
Cheers!
Malhavoc damn!!!! You must live near Toronto like I do (well I live north of Buffalo) lol…..great band….I’ve requested them in the past!!!
Calgary actually :) I often go on industrial black metal treks these days. And yes, Malhavoc are an early influence in all that for sure!
Right on!!
Fields of the Nephilim – Preacher Man
Thank you!
hour 2 wins Matt. I’d like to hear Hunters and Collectors World of Stone.
Damn I need to dust off my Hunters and Collectors cd!!!
For the first time in I can’t remember how long I was not able to listen live as I was at the slowdive show on Sunday. If you’re in Seattle tonight or Eugene tomorrow or Salt Lake this weekend, I cannot recommend more highly, you won’t be disappointed.
Just finished listening to hour 1, sublime. Thanks for playing my New Order request. Hour 2 looks like a blinder. Hour 3 damn fine as well, nice to see some Fall in there.
The Weddoes embark on their Bizarro 35th anniversary tour next week. To celebrate, may we please hear a killer b-side from that period? “Don’t Talk Just Kiss.”
Have a great week Matt, cheers!
Modern Eon – Watching The Dancers (1981) Apple Music
Dominion – Somewhere On The Dark Continent (1989) Apple Music
I’ve never heard that cover of Anarchy in the UK. It’s a beautiful version.
In the Nursery has a great cover of Love Will Tear us Apart on the Cause and Effect album if you want to play it sometime.
Thanks
Perfect opener and closer. Loved all of the New Order/Joy Division threads throughout…and The Damned, Underworld, shoegaze… As always, so much dark goodness stuffed into the weekly communion!
Thank you for including my request for JAMC. No request this week…Just want to take a moment to thank you for the great playlists week after week. And thank you for reading our comments and incorporating our requests – you’re the best!
Wishing the dark wavers a good week. Cheers!
I think you should do a episode of Darkwave with nothing but cover songs. Especially since you have said you are fond of covers.
Here is one to start off “Just like heaven” ( Cure Cover) by Dinosaur Jr.
The little disco party near the end was a great surprise. You are really pushing it, Matt! What’s next, Chemical Brothers? (Please.)
Song to the Siren by them (when they were still the Dust Brothers) is a classic! And samples This Mortal Coil – total Darkrave material ;)
Errr Dead Can Dance, that is :)
Wow, I blasted through this week’s episode really fast on Monday morning but haven’t had time to comment on til now. Really appreciated the Thomas tribute of Pere Ubu’s Final Solution and a great cover bookending the show. Steve Kilbey was new to my ears and I loved the song. I was also unfamiliar with that song by The Fall, and agree it is a killer. Also, TGIF…Thank God It’s Foetus! Speaking of, I’ve been in love with his version of ‘Faith Healer’ over the years, it was cool to hear another take on it.
The gazey block was beautiful from start to finish. Blown away by Blind Mr. Jones. Had to check past play lists to see that you’ve played this song before. Maybe because of the transition from that incredible Galaxy 500 version of ‘Ceremony’ it really stuck with me this time.
Looking forward to the next wave of darkness!
