Playlist: Sirius XM’s “Dark Wave” — hosted by Slicing Up Eyeballs (5/18/25)

The Rose of Avalanche

“Dark Wave,” hosted by Slicing Up Eyeballs’ Matt Sebastian, explores the darker side of classic ’80s alternative, including vintage goth, post-punk and industrial. The shows airs at 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Eastern every Sunday on Sirius XM satellite radio’s 1st Wave (Channel 33).

The most recent two episodes are also available to subscribers to stream via the Sirius XM app.

Got a request? Requests will be considered for future episodes as long as they fit the show’s format and fall generally within the 1st Wave era — and provided the host doesn’t harbor an intense dislike of the song. If there’s something you’d like to hear, drop it in the comments below.

  9. A lot of my favorite bands on this one, I would love it if you could play Limiter- Machines Of Loving Grace or Disease- Sister Machine Gun.

  10. Excellent program Matt!!! I really loved each hour. Thank you for playing Procession for me!!!! I never heard that DM cover of U2 before – very cool!! I’m in a retro state of mind. Some possible suggestions for next time:

The Lords of the New Church – Dance With Me
Depeche Mode – Dreaming of Me
The Cure – I Want to Be Old

    Thanks again as always!!!! 。◕‿◕。

  11. Nice episode – really dug the covers, so many were new to me!

I’m still in a ‘Surprising records that were on Wax Trax!’ kick so bear with me while i request something off The KLF’s album Chill Out! – the greatest comedown record ever made IMO. 3AM Somewhere Out Of Beaumont or Madrugada Eterna, perhaps? Definitely not the typical darkwave fare but might just work in the right context!

Thanks as always for our Sunday night required listening, Matt!

  12. Awesome show last night! I gotta give the slight edge to hour 3 although all three hours were brilliant. 7″ version of ‘Perfect’ tips the scale, I love that song so much.

I too had never heard that Bunnymen cover of the Beatles. What a nice surprise, thank you Tina! How about their version of ‘Paint it Black’ on a future show just so we can balance the Beatles with the Stones?

Have a great week Matt, cheers!

  13. Constantine

    Clan of Xymox

Back Door (original from Medusa album, not remake)

    Thanks Matt

  14. great show last night, Matt

  15. Could you please possibly play either Alien Sex Fiend or 45 Grave and even the original horror rocker ( Alice Cooper )’s version of
“Schools Out” since this is the last week of school. Thanxxx

  16. Hey Matt, great show! Some highlights for me among many great moments…. the run of post punk songs from Wire to Au Pairs; Swans on Glass, what an absolutely perfect song, the best of everything; more JG Thirwell a la Wiseblood’s Stumbo!!

I’ve got a bit of an odd request but will give it a shot. the band Pavement has been much on my brain since seeing the wonderfully weird documentary about them that recently came out. While I would not go so far as suggesting them as a Dark Wave regulars, I have two songs in mind that I will humbly submit as requests for your consideration.

First, The Wedding Present’s version of Box Elder, which was a Bizarro bonus track… (joining the ranks of requests for The Wedding Present, and requests for covers, and requests for The Wedding Present doing covers). Second is Pavement themselves doing the Echo & The Bunnymen’s The Killing Moon…one of my all-time favorite covers. Have a great week!

    • I’ve even had the good fortune of seeing Pavement play Killing Moon live, so good. Great calls on both of those covers David!

      • That must’ve been incredible! Like you, I’m also looking forward to seeing the Wedding Present. This Friday over here…It’ll be my first time getting to see them live!

    • Cucumber, cucucumber, cuhcuhcuhcuhcucabbage… cucumber, cucucucucacabbage…

  17. Hi Matt, love the show here in Orange County. I would love to hear Gene loves Jezebel, Bruises. For a friend Daniela.

  18. My request for The Smiths came on just as I was arriving at work – perfect timing to help put me in a positive mood to start the day. Thank you – it’s always appreciated to hear a request in the mix.
And I loved all of the cover songs, Wire, X-Ray Spex, Love and Rockets…

A request for an upcoming episode:
The Jesus and Mary Chain “Some Candy Talking”

    Thanks!

  19. Weimar Gesang – Chantal’s Secret

  20. Finished listening to the most recent episode & I loved it. Your show is my favorite on 1st Wave. My requests for this week are:
    Pitchshifter – Genius
Voodoo Church – Rest in peace
    And One – Deutschmaschine
    Thanks for reading & considering!

  21. Tom Waits – Goin’ Out West (1992) Apple Music + Qobuz
MC 900 Ft Jesus – Too Bad (1988) Bandcamp + Qobuz

  22. I loved Stumbo!

  23. I just discovered the website and the playlists.
Thank you so much for listing these!

  24. Thank you Matt for keeping the music coming! Another great show. Loving it every Sunday and play in my office at work during the week! Love the Wire, Throbbing Gristle, Chris and Cosey and always Skinny Puppy!!!

How about a great song from an obscure 80’s darkwave band Pylon: M-train.

Or Throbbing Gristle: United. Pretty dark and creepy that one. Actually, anything by TG or Psychic TV is pretty out there!

    John from Tucson
