The Cure at Bestival: Roger O’Donnell rejoins band for 32-song set (photo, video, setlist)

The Cure headlined the U.K.’s Bestival tonight, delivering a 32-song set filled with hits and a few lesser-aired tracks — including the first performance of ‘The Caterpillar’ in 20 years — with a lineup that included the return of keyboardist Roger O’Donnell, who says he’s back in the band for the third time.

Although he’s become an in-demand guest vocalist, Robert Smith says in a new interview that he’s refocusing on The Cure and vows he won’t do another collaboration until he completes the long-promised second half of 2008′s ‘4.13 Dream’ — the so-called ‘Dark Album’ that he once suggested could land in spring 2009.

This week’s new releases include a tribute to the British guitarist/songwriter John Martyn featuring The Cure’s Robert Smith, a reissue on 10-inch vinyl of The Clash’s ‘Black Market Clash’ and a 3CD compilation of extended remixes by the likes of New Order and The Jesus and Mary Chain called 12″/80s Alternative.’

Robert Smith’s new recording of the ‘Small Hours’ appears on ‘Johnny Boy Would Love This… A Tribute to John Martyn,’ which is due out Aug. 16. Lauren Laverne debuted the song on BBC 6 Music today, and you can stream and/or download the radio rip thanks to ever-vigilant fan site Chain of Flowers.
