For this week’s installment of Vintage Video, we’ll revisit a rarity we first shared about four years ago: The Cure’s lost relic of The Top era, a 90-minute concert film called “Live in Japan” that  documents the band’s Oct. 17, 1984, performance in Tokyo — and which was released the following year on VHS and Betamax in Japan only.

Luna — Dean Wareham’s reunited post-Galaxie 500 dreampop act — will put out its first new music since 2004 in September with the simultaneous release of a 10-song covers album called A Sentimental Education and a 6-song instrumental EP titled A Place of Greater Safety.

The Cure’s two much-coveted Record Store Day releases — 2001’s Greatest Hits and a standalone release of its limited-edition companion Acoustic Hits, both as 2LP picture discs — will receive a general release later this month on standard vinyl. They’ll be released on June 30.

Seeing as we’ve just unveiled the results of the Slicing Up Eyeballs readers poll that ranked all 225 original, officially released songs by The Cure, it seemed fitting to slap together a Spotify playlist. Unfortunately, there were 16 songs, out of that total list of 225, that aren’t on the streaming service.

Back by semi-popular demand: The Slicing Up Eyeballs readers poll, this time with a new twist. Whereas the first time around, we conducted a yearlong Best of the ’80s album survey, we’re going to dip our toes back into the polling waters by focusing on a single act: The Cure.
