Not only is Public Image Ltd. back in action these days, but two of that band’s key early members — bassist Jah Wobble and guitarist Keith Levene — have reunited to record their first full-length collaboration since PiL’s classic 1979 album ‘Metal Box.’ You can stream and/or download the set’s rather profane opening track here.
Public Image Ltd. brought its U.S. tour to Minneapolis tonight, and before John Lydon and Co. played their headlining date, the band stopped by the studios of The Current to record a three-song session. Public Image Ltd. has become the latest U.K. act to run afoul of U.S. immigration, announcing this morning that it has been forced to cancel tonight’s tour opener in Orlando, Fla., due to “unforeseen visa problems.” John Lydon and Co. pledge “the rest of the tour will continue as planned.”
This week’s new releases include the U.S. edition of ‘Don’t Be a Stranger’ from Mark Eitzel, plus a new album from the Jam’s Bruce Foxton, a double-A sided single form Public Image Ltd., a reissue of Aztec Camera’s 1984 album ‘Knife,’ and a 2CD singles collection form A.R. Kane.
John Lydon’s reunited Public Image Ltd. took to the airwaves last night for the band’s first U.K. television performance in 20 years, appearing on BBC Two’s “Later… with Jools Holland” to play “Reggie Song,” the next single off the band’s comeback LP, This Is PiL — which you can watch right here.
On the eve of its fall North American tour, John Lydon’s reconstituted Public Image Ltd. will release a new double-A sided single off this year’s ‘This Is PiL’ album, spotlighting the tracks “Reggie Song” and “Out of the Woods” and featuring, as B-sides, tracks recorded in 2010 at New York City’s Terminal 5.
