John Lydon will tour North American arenas this summer, but not with Public Image Ltd. or the Sex Pistols — no, the erstwhile Johnny Rotten will play King Herod in a new touring production of “Jesus Christ Superstar” that also will feature members of Incubus, *NSYNC and Destiny’s Child.

Public Image Ltd. is working on a “comprehensive, career-spanning” documentary about itself, and is turning to fans to help track down “never before seen” photographs as well as rare film and video footage of John Lydon and Co. from any time period of the group’s career.

Virgin Records is celebrating its 40th anniversary this fall, a milestone the label will mark, in part, with a series of vinyl reissues from Public Image Ltd., including a new 180-gram picture disc of 1986’s Album, a 7-inch picture disc of “This Is Not a Love Song” and a double A-sided 12-inch singe featuring “Rise” and “Warrior.”

For this week’s installment of Vintage Video, we bring you the full hour-long performance by Public Image Ltd. on the West German TV show “Rockpalast” in 1983, a 13-song set that recently was released on both CD and DVD — but the folks at the RockpalastOfficial YouTube channel put it online.
