Eighteen years to the day after Oingo Boingo’s farewell concert at the Universal Amphitheater, the band’s former frontman, Danny Elfman, will take the concert stage for an ultra-rare live performance on Halloween, conducting and singing a program called “Danny Elfman’s Music From the Films of Tim Burton.”

Danny Elfman will take the stage at London’s Royal Albert Hall this October for a cinematic career overview entitled “Danny Elfman’s Music From the Films of Tim Burton” that will find him doing something he hasn’t done since Oingo Boingo’s farewell concert on Halloween night 1995: singing in public.

For those of us living in Southern California in the late ’80s and early ’90s, Halloween meant one thing: Oingo Boingo’s epic “Dia de los Muertos” concerts in Los Angeles and San Diego. We’ve posted this 1990 show before, but now we’ve got two full sets from 1987 — Oct. 30 and 31 at Irivne Meadows.

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak is helping make a feature-length documentary about the so-called ‘Woodstock of the ’80s’ — the 1982 US Festival, which featured Talking Heads, Oingo Boingo, The B-52s, The Cars, Ramones, Gang of Four and more — to be released this Labor Day weekend on the event’s 30th anniversary.

Dick Clark, who died Wednesday at age 82, and ‘American Bandstand’ played an important role in the ’80s, too, helping bring the burgeoning New Wave and college rock scenes to mainstream America at a time when the still-nascent MTV wasn’t universally available on American cable networks.
