It’s David Byrne’s birthday today — he’s 60 — and while he’s made it perfectly clear he wants nothing to do with his old Talking Heads bandmates, it’s certainly fun to look back at what a mighty band they once were. This week’s new releases include ‘Ssss,’ the debut from VCMG, aka former Depeche Mode bandmates Vince Clarke and Martin Gore, as well as a live album from David Byrne and Caetano Veloso, a live package from Fields of the Nephilim, and singles from Paul Weller and Erasure.

Eagle Rock Entertainment this fall will release a DVD compiling Talking Heads live performances from across the band’s touring career, an 18-track set called ‘Chronology’ that spans the years 1975 to 1983 — and includes the quartet performing “Life During Wartime” during its brief reunion at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.
