Bob Mould will release a new album called ‘Silver Age’ that Merge Records likens to the ‘punishingly loud, melodically sparkling pop/rock vein of the Sugar catlalog’ — a fitting comparison, since Mould will tour the album in the U.S. this fall by playing that band’s ‘Copper Blue’ front-to-back.

Jimmy Somerville’s three mid-’80s studio albums with synthpop groups Bronski Beat and the Communards each will be reissued this summer as expanded double-disc sets loaded with a host of B-sides, remixes, live tracks and more — with some of the material making its way to CD for the first time ever.

Fierce Panda Records and musical director Alan Wilder have revealed the full tracklist for ‘Spirit of Talk Talk,’ a 2CD tribute dedicated to hugely influential synth group Talk Talk that will feature contributions from members of Arcade Fire and Grandaddy, as well as ex-Depeche Mode member Wilder’s Recoil project.

Redd Kross — the ’80s cult act founded by brothers Jeff and Steven McDonald that scored some minor college-radio hits as ’90s major-label alt-rockers — have signed to legendary indie imprint Merge Records and this August will deliver ‘Researching the Blues,’ the band’s first new album in 15 years.
