The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this morning announced its Class of 2012, a list that does not include first-time nominees The Cure, but does feature ’80s college-rock vets Red Hot Chili Peppers plus Beastie Boys, Guns N’ Roses, Donovan, Laura Nyro and a combination of The Faces and The Small Faces.

Tonight’s Slicing Up Eyeballs show on Strangeways Radio featured new music from Depeche Mode co-founders Vince Clarke and Martin L. Gore, The Dead Milkmen and Gary Numan, plus old faves by Adam Ant, Mojo Nixon, Prefab Sprout and The Sisters of Mercy — and a couple tracks off the new Cure live album.

The Wedding Present plans to release its eighth studio album in March, frontman David Gedge announced Tuesday, then embark on a 14-date North American tour that will see the band performing those new songs in addition to playing 1991’s ‘Seamonsters’ in its entirety as part of that record’s 21st anniversary.

Dead Can Dance today released the second in a series of free, four-track digital EPs collecting live material recorded on the band’s 2005 tour. ‘Live Happenings — Part II’ features in-concert recordings of ‘The Love That Cannot Be,’ ‘The Lotus Eaters,’ ‘Crescent’ and ‘Minus Sanctus.’ Get it here.

Midnight Oil will be the subject of a career-spanning, multi-disc box set next year that guitarist Jim Moginie promises ‘is going to be amazing in its depth and presentation of the band’s career, with rare recordings and so far unseen and unheard film and music.’

New Order is headed Down Under in the new year, having just been announced as one of the headliners next March of Australia’s traveling Future Music Festival, which also will feature performances by acts including Swedish House Mafia, Fatboy Slim, Skrillex and Aphex Twin.

This month’s mixtape includes new and previously unreleased music from Paul Weller, Peter Murphy, The Lucy Show and Hussey-Regan, featuring The Mission’s Wayne Hussey — plus some older favorites by the likes of The Wild Swans, Magazine, The Stone Roses, Orange Juice, Revenge and The Alarm.
