The Chameleons
“Dark Wave,” hosted by Slicing Up Eyeballs’ Matt Sebastian, explores the darker side of classic ’80s alternative, including vintage goth, post-punk and industrial. The show airs at 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Eastern every Sunday on Sirius XM’s 1st Wave (Channel 33).
The most recent two episodes are available to subscribers to stream via the Sirius XM app.
Got a request? Requests will be considered for future episodes, but there’s no guarantee they’ll be played. They must fit the show’s format and fall generally within the 1st Wave era. And not be something the host really dislikes. If there’s something you’d like to hear, drop it in the comments below.

Wow, what a show last night! All 3 hours on point. Thanks for kicking off the shoegaze block with my Velocity Girl request, very nice. Is anyone else keeping fingers crossed that they get back together for next year’s Slide Away festival? Catherine Wheel would also be awesome too. Don’t see Lush ever get back together unfortunately. Nice to hear some 14 Iced Bears, underrated band for sure. That was a killer industrial block in hour 2, always love hearing some Pigface. And But Not Tonight is my all time fave DM song. Fun to hear some Moroder soundtrack work on the show as well.
Matt, have you ever played Dinosaur Jr. on the show? I know, doesn’t really fit the bill as far as darkwave, but I feel like they’re in the same boat with Sonic Youth, Jane’s Addiction, Butthole Surfers, Jesus Lizard, and Big Black and you’ve definitely played those bands. No prob if not appropriate for a future communion, but if you have a fave cut from J. and Lou and Murph I’d love to hear it, dealer’s choice!

Talk of Slide Away always makes my ears perk up… Last year was the first time I went and it was a fantastic time! Re Velocity Girl, I caught a comeback of sorts show they did in NY I think 2 years ago. Was extremely excited because I’d never seen them in the 90s. I have to say that while it was fun, Sarah’s voice was not up to the range of much of their classic material. It was much more of a shouty/screamy performance. So, not to be a downer but I don’t know if they’d be up to a big series of shows like that. If that was just an off night vocally then they would be a fantastic addition.
Dinosaur Jr….I am way to anal about playlist history to not look into it and I see that despite amazing reporting on their activity over the years they have not been played on Dark Wave in recent years. I could’ve sworn I heard their cover of Just Like Heaven on an all covers episode… perhaps the next time around. I definitely think some songs off Living All Over Me liked KRACKED or SLUDGEFEAST would fit in wonderfully with some Black Flag or Sonic Youth or Pixies.
(wondering if this comment will be seen this late in the week since there’s no notification of reply feature on the board…or is there? Perhaps a DW Reddit or FB group would be in order for continued conversations about our favorite Sirius show, or is there one already??)

I’d love to hear something from O.L.D. (Old Lady Drivers) album ‘Formula’. One of my very favorites from the 90’s that’s a post-rock/industrial/experimental mashup. Maybe ‘Break (You)’ or ‘Devolve’ or anything really. Would be great to share the genius of that album with this community.

Very late in getting over to the comments board this week but I enjoyed this show immensely. I tend to let the heavy hitters go unmentioned, but Atmosphere is such an amazing Joy Division song. The Pixies and Janes’ songs were such great representations of both those bands, quite great to hear back-to-back.. The live Pigface track was also great. I really appreciated the rarely played 14 Iced Bears, their sound has left quite an impression on me. Also great was the entirely new to me No Wave-y Minimal Compact. That Velocity Girl request from Nathan kicked off a fantastic Shoegaze block. There was more but I’ll leave it at that.
