Playlist: Sirius XM’s “Dark Wave” — hosted by Slicing Up Eyeballs (3/9/25)

Cocteau Twins

“Dark Wave,” hosted by Slicing Up Eyeballs’ Matt Sebastian, explores the darker side of classic ’80s alternative, including vintage goth, post-punk and industrial. The shows airs at 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Eastern every Sunday on Sirius XM satellite radio’s 1st Wave (Channel 33).

The most recent two episodes are also available to subscribers to stream via the Sirius XM app.

Got a request? Requests will be considered for future episodes as long as they fit the show’s format and fall generally within the 1st Wave era — and provided the host doesn’t harbor an intense dislike of the song. If there’s something you’d like to hear, drop it in the comments below.

  8. Man, what a set last night. Thanks for the shoutout and for playing Jazz Butcher. It really is a great cover. Loved hearing the new Peter Murphy and some very old Sisters as well. Stellar choice on the Marianne Faithful track too. That song reminds me of Nick Cave in a really good way.

With Easter around the corner how about a little “Walkin’ with Jesus” by Spacemen 3 on a future communion?

Matt, one of these days I hope to have the opportunity to say thank you in person. I’m buying the drink too. Have a great week everyone, cheers!

  9. Excellent show last night, Matt!

  10. This was another top notch show! Thank you for playing my Nick Cave request. The Jazz Butcher’s cover of “Roadrunner” was hands down my favorite track (kudos to Nathan!). A few other highlights include The The, JAMC, The Smiths and Marianne Faithful…

A request for an upcoming show:
    David Bowie “Little Wonder”

    Thank you!

    • Thanks Nicole! And hells yes to the Bowie request, that’s a great one. Totally bonkers video too. Bowie in the eyepatch!

      • And it blows my mind that Bowie was 50 years old when “Earthling” was released. A true artist through and through…He continues to inspire me.

        • You are so right! Outside and Earthling were quite the double whammy. As were The Next Day and then Blackstar. Bowie is a true iconoclast.

  11. The Chameleons-Nostalgia

  12. Hey Matt, great show. I really liked hearing The Red Temple Spirits, I haven’t listened to them in a while.
I would love to hear in the next episode the song
“ Everyone Wants To Live Forever” by The Flaming Lips. If you could that would be great.
Thank you. Also, great Joy Division track.

  13. Thanks very much for the Split Second. Love that track and think it was a great opening number.
Still listening to the show, so can’t pick a favorite hour yet. But Hour 3 is looking pretty tempting.
Thanks for the great music. Have a good week.

  14. Pulp – Mark Of The Devil (1986) Apple Music + Qobuz
Kissing The Pink – Each Day In Nine (1984) Apple Music + Qobuz

  15. Now this was a great episode! Love me some Die Krupps and Moev, and we can never have too much Nick Cave.
For a future episode, I’d like to hear Die Haut’s “Breaking in Your Daydream”.

  16. Thanks for playing my Moev request! It’s cool it was placed right next to the Sisters of Mercy.

  17. Thanks for the Chrome track! I remember that one from Ralph’s Subterranean Modern collection.

  18. Sorry for the late request. Great show last Sunday. I would really love to hear Gang Of Four’s Live version of – What We All Want. One of my favs. Off of the Another Day/ Another Dollar E.P.
    Thank You.

  19. Steven litt

Please play Cocteau twins road, river and rail

  20. Matt,
Really Good show liked Murder Inc., Low Life, A Split Second and Gang a four to name a few.

I have a request for Flock of Seagulls- Nightmares. I know what your are thinking maybe it does not belong to Darkwave but it is a Dark song and I think it fits, give it a whirl.
Other suggestions would be Sisters of Mercy – 1969 or Primitives – Crash

  21. How is it that I’ve been listening to your show for years upon years, yet you always seem to reach into that bottomless dark wave bag of yours and pull out something I’ve never heard before?! Rubella Ballet – Twister? Great song. You are just as much a treasure as the songs you play. Thanks Matt.
