Thirty years after drawing an alleged 670,000 music fans into the middle of nowhere in California, the 1983 installment of the US Festival — a four-day event over Memorial Day Weekend — will be commemorated next month with a DVD concert film featuring performances by U2, The Clash, English Beat, INXS and more.

American Laundromat Records next spring will release a double-CD tribute to quirky director Wes Anderson titled I Saved Latin!, a collection that will feature indie artists such as Black Francis, Kristin Hersh, Juliana Hatfield, Mike Watt and more covering songs featured in films.

Skinny Puppy have debuted a graphic, Jason Alacrity-directed music video for one of the record’s tracks, “illisiT,” which features a riot cop stomping on skulls and some kind of hooded fugitive plunging surgical instruments into his arm to remove a bug-like robotic probe. That part’s not for the squeamish.

The Pixies today debuted the third music video off the band’s recently released four-song EP-1 collection, a sparse, desert-set clip that culminates with guitarist Joey Santiago exploding into a spray of blood, seemingly answering the question posted by the song’s title: “What Goes Boom.” Check out the full clip,

Mike Peters last week addressed his departure from Big Country, thanking both the band and its fans “for a wonderful four years” without offering any reason for his split with the reunited group — which itself only has revealed to fans that “Big Country and Mike will now be parting ways” as it continues on as a four-piece.

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds will return to North America next summer for a second round of dates in support of the band’s current album Push the Sky Away, a just-announced trek that runs from June 16 through July 31 and will bring the group to 15 cities across the United States plus four more in Canada.

This week’s new releases include the slightly slimmed-down 6CD version of the new Waterboys’ ‘Fisherman’s Blues’ box set of demos and unfinished tracks, plus a reissue of Soulsavers’ album with Dave Gahan and the belated CD release of Tears For Fears co-founder Curt Smith’s new solo album.
