The Wedding Present this month will release a long-shelved re-recording of the band’s debut album George Best by famed engineer Steve Albini, and are offering up a first taste of the project in the form of a new version of “Shatner,” which you can now stream in full right here.

David Gedge and the rest of The Wedding Present stopped by the Seattle studios of KEXP in April during the band’s spring U.S. tour in support of their latest album Going, Going…,  and performed a six-song, half-hour set that the radio station has now shared online. David Gedge has a busy year planned for The Wedding Present, with a North American tour beginning next week, a new instrumental EP due out on Record Store Day and a new version of the band’s 1987 debut album George Best — recorded by Steve Albini — due out later in the year.

An impressive set of The Wedding Present reissues will arrive this fall, a campaign that sees the first decade of David Gedge and Co.’s catalog expanded into 3CD/1DVD sets brimming with extras that include non-album singles, B-sides, BBC sessions, live concerts, music videos and much more.

This week’s new releases include box sets devoted to Tears For Fears and Waterboys albums, plus a new Morrissey concert film, a reissue of Billy Bragg’s debut, a box set collecting six Boomtown Rats albums, an audiophile CD pressing from the Pixies and live sets from The Mission and The Wedding Present.

This week’s new releases include brand-new studio albums from The Mission, Elvis Costello and The Roots, Sebadoh and Berlin, plus a live DVD/Blu-ray release from Peter Gabriel, a 1992 live album from The Wedding Present and an audiophile vinyl pressing of The Sisters of Mercy’s ‘Floodland.’
