While initially announced as U.K.-only, Rhino Records has decided to release a limited number of The Smiths’ ‘Complete’ box sets in the U.S. exclusively through Rhino.com. Even better: They’ve given us a copy of the deluxe CD-and-vinyl edition to give away to one very lucky Slicing Up Eyeballs reader.

Morrissey today announced his fall tour of the U.S. and Mexico, a trek that — outside of a Chicago date that opens the run — primarily hits the American southwest with 11 shows in November and early December that will be followed by six more concerts in four Mexican cities.

Morrissey continues to tease North American fans with dribbles of information about his upcoming touring plans, the latest of which is a promise to announce full details of the fall trek — now believed to comprise 10 U.S. shows and four Mexican dates, plus two American television appearances — on Thursday.

Morrissey is set to follow up this summer’s headline-grabbing European tour with 10 U.S. dates in November, a trek that will be announced Monday — and will mark the former Smiths singer’s first American concerts since a pair of cancellation-prone visits in 2009.

Much has been made about the loss of album art in the download age, but pop-culture maven Matthew Chojnacki argues that even more endangered are the 7- and 12-inch single sleeves of the 1980s — ephemeral splashes of music history that he’s compiled in the new book ‘Put the Needle on the Record: The 1980s at 45 Revolutions Per Minute.’

The folks over at the U.K. arm of Rhino Records continue to dig through the video archive of material by The Smiths, and now they’ve unearthed this 17-minute ‘lost’ documentary about the band, which they believe was commissioned by the label in 1992 in support of the ‘Best…’ compilation.

Following yesterday’s brouhaha over Morrissey’s comments on stage about the mass murder in Norway, the former Smiths frontman today released an official statement condemning the killing as ‘horrific,’ but reiterating his attack on fast-food meat, writing, ‘You cannot ignore animal suffering because animals “are not us.” ‘

The U.K. arm of Rhino Records this fall will release ‘The Smiths — Complete,’ a ‘super deluxe collectors’ box set’ that will feature remastered versions of the band’s eight albums on both CD and 180-gram audiophile vinyl, plus all 25 of the group’s singles on individual 7-inches.
