Drummer Andy Anderson, who joined The Cure after Lol Tolhurst moved to keyboards and played on the band’s 1984 album The Top, revealed on Facebook this week that he has Stage 4 cancer, a terminal diagnosis that there is “no way of returning back from.” Read his full statement here.
Robert Smith called into Sirius XM this week to chat about The Cure’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next year, and, along the way, revealed that work is nearing completion on the band’s first new album since 2008 and a Tim Pope-shot film of the group’s huge 40th anniversary concert in London.

The Cure today teased fans with a somewhat cryptic announcement of what appears to be a planned Dublin concert next June — details still TBA — following frontman Robert Smith’s announcement that the band will be “headlining around 20 festivals next summer — mostly in Europe.”
In the build-up to this year’s festivities celebrating the 40th anniversary of The Cure, bandleader Robert Smith said fans could expect further touring in 2019 — and we now have the first evidence of that, with the announcement that the band will play two dates in South Africa next March. The Robert Smith-curated Meltdown festival in London wrapped up Sunday night with a headlining performance by The Cure — or, rather, CURÆTION-25, as the band was billed — that featured a there-and-back-again, two-set retrospective of the band’s 40-year career. Check out the full setlist right here.
