Matt Johnson will now open The The’s highly anticipated return with a trio of “very low-key warm-up shows” in the U.K. this May prior to a headlining performance at a Denmark festival and what’s being called the “London Trilogy” of sold-out concerts this summer. See the band’s full dates here.

The The’s highly anticipated 2018 return continues to grow, with the announcement this week that Matt Johnson and Co. will perform at the Iveagh Gardens in Dublin, Ireland, on July 7 — following a previously announced festival date in Denmark and three London dates in June. Tickets go on sale next week.

Matt Johnson continues to slowly expand the much-anticipated live return of The The next year, today announcing the group will headline Festival No. 6 in Portmeirion, a booking that’s being billed as the band’s only confirmed U.K. date outside London. See full dates here.

Matt Johnson will follow up the release of The The’s first new music in a decade with a busy fall that will include the release of a 3-disc box set chronicling his 12-hour “Radio Cineola” live broadcast in 2015, screenings of an accompanying documentary and The The’s first concerts in 16 years.

The The today released a music video for the band’s comeback single “We Can’t Stop What’s Coming,” an emotional clip that, like the song, pays tribute to bandleader Matt Johnson’s late brother Andrew Johnson, aka Andy Dog, who designed much of The The’s artwork.

The The today apologized for a trouble-plagued attempt to sell extra copies of its Record Store Day 7-inch single online Saturday, and, acknowledging that “demand far exceeded everyone’s expectations,” announced that “We Can’t Stop What’s Coming” will be released digitally and on CD.

Fans of The The in the U.S. and other parts of the world that aren’t the U.K. will get their chance to buy Matt Johnson and Co.’s first new single in 10 years Saturday as extra copies of the band’s much-coveted, and very sold-out, Record Store Day 7-inch go on sale online.

Matt Johnson debuted his first new The The single in a decade today on Steve Lamacq’s BBC 6 Music show, calling in to the program to introduce “We Can’t Stop What’s Coming,” a tribute to his late brother that will be released as a 7-inch single for Record Store Day in the U.K.

Two years after announcing work on a new The The album, Matt Johnson is releasing his first full-band music under that moniker in the form of “We Can’t Stop What’s Coming,” an etched one-sided 7-inch single to be issued next month as part of Record Store Day in the U.K.

The The mastermind Matt Johnson spent the first decade of the 2000s musically inactive and moved on to issue scores to independent films under his old band’s moniker for the past few years. Now, though, he’s finally doing what fans have been clamoring for: he’s recording a proper new The The album.

He may be releasing an expanded vinyl reissue of 1983’s Soul Mining next month, but Matt Johnson isn’t only looking backward: He’s recorded not one but two new film soundtracks under the The The banner, new music composed for the independent films “Hyena” and “Penthouse North.”

The 1983 debut from The The — Soul Mining, featuring the singles “Uncertain Smile” and “This is the Day” — will receive a 30th anniversary reissue this summer in the former of a deluxe 2LP set that will include the remastered album on one 180-gram vinyl platter and six remixes and B-sides on the other.
