The The today apologized for a trouble-plagued attempt to sell extra copies of its Record Store Day 7-inch single online Saturday, and, acknowledging that “demand far exceeded everyone’s expectations,” announced that “We Can’t Stop What’s Coming” will be released digitally and on CD.

Fans of The The in the U.S. and other parts of the world that aren’t the U.K. will get their chance to buy Matt Johnson and Co.’s first new single in 10 years Saturday as extra copies of the band’s much-coveted, and very sold-out, Record Store Day 7-inch go on sale online.

Matt Johnson debuted his first new The The single in a decade today on Steve Lamacq’s BBC 6 Music show, calling in to the program to introduce “We Can’t Stop What’s Coming,” a tribute to his late brother that will be released as a 7-inch single for Record Store Day in the U.K.

For this week’s installment of “120 Minutes” Rewind, we look back at the time The The mastermind Matt Johnson hosted the show in 1986 while promoting that year’s Infected — and earned an on-screen disclaimer because of his stridently political remarks between music videos.

Two years after announcing work on a new The The album, Matt Johnson is releasing his first full-band music under that moniker in the form of “We Can’t Stop What’s Coming,” an etched one-sided 7-inch single to be issued next month as part of Record Store Day in the U.K.

The The mastermind Matt Johnson spent the first decade of the 2000s musically inactive and moved on to issue scores to independent films under his old band’s moniker for the past few years. Now, though, he’s finally doing what fans have been clamoring for: he’s recording a proper new The The album.
