In December 1988, when Dinosaur Jr entered Boston’s famed Fort Apache Studios, to record a track for ‘The Bridge: A Tribute to Neil Young,’ they cut not one but two songs: ‘Lotta Love,’ which would be included on the disc alongside covers by the Pixies, The Flaming Lips and Sonic Youth, and ‘I’ve Been Waiting For You.’

Following this summer’s cassette-only reissue of ‘Bug,’ the reunited Dinosaur Jr this fall will re-release that 1988 album along with the band’s first two records — 1985’s ‘Dinosaur’ and 1987’s ‘You’re Living All Over Me’ — on vinyl this fall, the trio’s current label, Jagjaguwar, announced this week.

Indie-rock powerhouse Dinosaur Jr will reissue its 1988 album ‘Bug’ for the second time in six years later this month — but rather than a tricked-out CD, this edition will be pressed on a super-limited, hand-numbered purple cassette, the band announced today.

Filmmaker Brad Katz is appealing to music fans to help fund his documentary ‘Just Gimme Indie Rock! The Story of an Underground Uprising,’ a film project he describes as ‘an epic trilogy that spans a generation’ — tracing the rise of the independent label scene in the early ’80s through the alternative explosion of the ’90s and into indie resurgence of the 2000s.

J Mascis will unplug this spring — or, as Dinosaur Jr bandmate Lou Barlow put it, ‘pretend he’s a peace loving acoustic guy’ — for a just-announced 22-date North American tour in support of his first-ever solo studio album ‘Several Shades of Why.’

With Dinosaur Jr on break, bassist Lou Barlow is shifting focus to a revived Sebadoh, with plans to release expanded reissues of 1994’s ‘Bakesale’ and 1996’s ‘Harmacy’ this year and take the famously lo-fi act out on the road for the ‘Bakesale/Harmacy Remembering Time Tour.’

Taking a pause from the ongoing Dinosaur Jr reunion, Lou Barlow this week released a new digital EP called ‘= Sentridoh III’ — recorded with his current backing band, The Missingmen — and announced two rounds of North American summer dates.

The reactivated Dinosaur Jr will spend most of May touring Europe with fellow guitar rockers Built to Spill — a six-string lover’s dream, no doubt — before bassist Lou Barlow returns to the U.S. for a 14-date solo trek in June in support of last year’s ‘Goodnight Unknown.’
