Sebadoh today announced plans to release its first new album in 14 years this September, a record titled Defend Yourself that follows up last year’s comeback Secret EP and that new label Joyful Noise Recordings claims “marks a return to the self-recorded DIY ethos of early Sebadoh albums (Bakesale, Sebadoh III).”
Dinosaur Jr’s third post-reunion album, and 10th full-length effort overall, ‘I Bet On Sky,’ is due out in less than 10 days now, but, starting Sunday night, the band is streaming the full 10-track album via NPR Music. The reunited band recorded the album earlier this year, and it follows 2007′s ‘Beyond’ and 2009′s ‘Farm.’
After several years of touring in support of various classic albums, the reunited Sebadoh this week dropped a surprise on fans: a new five-song EP called Secret, which is both Lou Barlow & Co.’s first new music in 13 years and a teaser to a full-length album that should arrive sometime in 2013.
Dinosaur Jr today announced they will release their third post-reunion album, the 10-track ‘I Bet on Sky,’ on Sept. 17 in the U.K. and Sept. 18 in the U.S. and then embark on a 29-date North American tour this fall. Dinosaur Jr is back in the recording studio, working on its follow-up to 2009’s ‘Farm,’ according to bassist Lou Barlow’s daily Twitter account of the sessions, which includes an apparent admonition from the band’s management to ‘stop tweeting.’
Lou Barlow has been treating fans to a treasure trove of free, rare and often unreleased music via his e-mail newsletter, and with his latest dispatch, he reaches back all the way back to 1983 to share a ‘lost’ 3-song practice tape from Deep Wound, his pre-Dinosaur Jr band with J Mascis.
In December 1988, when Dinosaur Jr entered Boston’s famed Fort Apache Studios, to record a track for ‘The Bridge: A Tribute to Neil Young,’ they cut not one but two songs: ‘Lotta Love,’ which would be included on the disc alongside covers by the Pixies, The Flaming Lips and Sonic Youth, and ‘I’ve Been Waiting For You.’
