Our round-up of what made headlines at Slicing Up Eyeballs over the past week includes posts about New Order, Joy Division, Morrissey, the Pixies, Sonic Youth, Kate Bush, Dinosaur Jr, The Fall and much, much more.

The limited-edition Joy Division box set comprised of 10 newly remastered 7-inch singles that was released late last year is being reissued next month — this time on compact disc, collecting ‘CD replicas of 10 singles presented in a beautiful clamshell box.’

As Peter Hook first revealed to Slicing Up Eyeballs in August, the since-reunited New Order will release the songs left over from 2005 swan song ‘Waiting for the Sirens’ Call’ — in an eight-track CD/LP package called ‘Lost Sirens’ that is due to be released in December by Rhino Records.

EMI this week released the first in a new series of Peel Sessions compilations, a 2CD set called ‘Movement: BBC Radio 1 Peel Sessions 1977–1979’ that compiles recordings by 41 different punk, post-punk, reggae and 2 Tone acts including Joy Division, XTC, The Jam, Simple Minds, The Specials, Public Image Ltd. and Siouxsie and the Banshees.

Posters and album art by some of Manchester’s most iconic musical acts — including The Smiths, Morrissey, Joy Division, New Order, The Stone Roses and Happy Mondays — will go on display, and up for sale, at exhibition called ‘The Manchester Connection 1976-1992’ at a London gallery next month.

New Order reunited on stage tonight in Brussels for its first concert in five years, the first of two planned European charity gigs that find the dormant group performing without long-feuding bassist Peter Hook — but with keyboardist Gillian Gilbert for the first time in a decade. See video here.
