Erasure’s Andy Bell talks to Slicing Up Eyeballs about ‘Non-Stop,’ his dancefloor-ready second solo album that, in some ways, is actually Bell’s third, after his record label forced him to scrap a Stephen Hague-produced effort that ‘sounded too much like Erasure.’

Playing its first official public concert with new bassist Duff McKagan, alt-rockers Jane’s Addiction debuted a brand-new song, ‘Soulmate,’ at a short Hollywood club show last night — the first new Jane’s tune to emerge since 2003’s ‘Strays.’

The members of Jane’s Addiction this week effectively confirmed one of the worst-kept secrets in rock: namely that former Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan has replaced original member Eric Avery, who earlier this month left the band for the second time.

Erasure singer Andy Bell will show off his “his more clubby, nocturnal, disco-glam side” on ‘Non-Stop,’ his forthcoming second solo album — which features a duet with Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell.

Bassist Eric Avery made it official this morning, announcing via Twitter that he has quit Jane’s Addiction for a second time as the rockers have now wrapped up their rescheduled tour of Australia — the final dates of a reunion that started with last year’s joint trek with Nine Inch Nails.

Here’s video of Jane’s Addiction — with Flea subbing for Eric Avery — rehearsing “Chip Away” for the band’s Nov. 8, 1997, appearance on “Saturday Night Live.” In the end, Jane’s only played one song that night, “Jane Says.”
