With Bob Mould’s birthday approaching — he’ll be 51 on Sunday — we thought we’d dedicate this installment of Vintage Video to the legendary Hüsker Dü. And so we present this fantastic footage of the trio powering through an hour-long set at London’s Camden Palace in 1985.

Bob Mould stops by the Chicago-based ‘Sound Opinions’ radio show this week to talk about his just-published autobiography ‘See A Little Light: The Trail of Rage and Melody,’ which covers his tenure in Hüsker Dü, Sugar and beyond. The show begins airing Friday on public radio stations across the U.S.

This week’s new releases include an audiophile vinyl reissue of ‘Copper Blue,’ the debut from Bob Mould’s post-Husker Du power trio; The Japanese Popstars’ ‘Controlling Your Allegiance,’ featuring the single ‘Take Forever’ with The Cure’s Robert Smith; and a 2CD reissue of Frankie Goes to Hollywood’s ‘Liverpool.’

Filmmaker Brad Katz is appealing to music fans to help fund his documentary ‘Just Gimme Indie Rock! The Story of an Underground Uprising,’ a film project he describes as ‘an epic trilogy that spans a generation’ — tracing the rise of the independent label scene in the early ’80s through the alternative explosion of the ’90s and into indie resurgence of the 2000s.

With his autobiography ‘See A Little Light: The Trail of Rage and Melody’ due out next month, Bob Mould is gearing up for a busy summer that will include a book tour, dates with his Blowoff DJ side project, an opening slot at two giant Foo Fighters shows in the U.K. and the reissue of Sugar’s classic debut ‘Copper Blue’ on audiophile vinyl.
