Tuesday marks the 25th anniversary of Depeche Mode’s iconic “Concert For the Masses,” a daylong show at the 100,000-seat Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif., that also featured performances by Wire, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark and Thomas Dolby — and was, of course, filmed and recorded for ‘101.’

Vince Clarke — he of Erasure, and former stints in Depeche Mode and Yazoo, of course — has been playing the occasional DJ set of late, and he’s got another one booked for June 22 at Velvet Underground in Toronto. The rumors were true: Depeche Mode will join their contemporaries in The Cure as headliners at this October’s Austin City Limits Music Festival, according to the official lineup revealed tonight. The festival also will feature appearances by Thom Yorke’s Atoms for Peace, Muse and Wilco.

This year’s Austin City Limits Music Festival won’t officially announce its lineup until May 7, but the event’s organizers are cleverly planting clues around Austin in newspaper ads, plastic cups, T-shirts and even bottle caps. And it’s the latter that, by all appearances, confirms The Cure will play the Texas festival.

Depeche Mode opened its massive Delta Machine world tour tonight with a 23-song set that featured a healthy dose of material off the new album, the usual crowd pleasers (“Enjoy the Silence,” “Personal Jesus,” set closer “Never Let Me Down Again”) and some welcome callbacks.

The Depeche Mode promo juggernaut continued Friday night with the band performing a tiny club gig at The Troubadour in Los Angeles to a crowd of about 400 KROQ contest winners and VIPs — and then proceeding to stun fans with the first-ever live performance of “But Not Tonight.”

Depeche Mode returned to “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on Wednesday night for a follow-up to the band’s 2009 mini-concert, performing a short five-song set for a throng of fans, including its Delta Machine singles “Soothe My Soul” and “Heaven,” both of which were broadcast on the late-night show.

Depeche Mode will warm up for the opening of its Delta Machine world tour in Nice, France, early next month with a just-announced free concert in Los Angeles this Friday at The Troubadour, a 400-capacity club that radio station KROQ is calling “the smallest venue the band has played in L.A…. EVER!”

Röyksopp on Saturday will release a red-vinyl 10-inch for Record Store Day in the U.K. that features a live cover of Depeche Mode’s “Ice Machine,” the B-side to the band’s 1981 debut single “Dreaming of Me.” The Röyksopp cover is part of the band’s upcoming installment of the compilation series Late Night Tales.

The Delta Machine promotional blitz hit U.K. television Saturday night as Depeche Mode appeared on “The Jonathan Ross Show” for a 10-minute interview segment with the seemingly pants-less host and a black-and-white performance of the album’s first single, “Heaven.”

With their new album ‘Delta Machine’ out this week, Depeche Mode today announced a new stop on its North American tour — Oct. 6 in Las Vegas — suggesting that the band will be filling in that conspicuous nine-date gap between its Los Angeles shows and the tour-closing gig in Phoenix.
