Peter Murphy has enlisted former bandmate David J to play bass in his band during the final three, Bauhaus-focused nights of his expanded 16-night residency in San Francisco next year, a run of shows that had been postponed due to the singer’s vocal problems. See full details here.
David J, the erstwhile bassist and Bauhaus and Love and Rockets, has been on the road for much of the year, playing full-band shows and incredibly intimate house concerts. Daniel Ash and Kevin Haskins have confirmed the first tour dates for their highly anticipated new project Poptone, which will perform the music of the bandmates’ prior acts Bauhaus, Tones on Tail and Love and Rockets at nine concerts in five states in the western U.S. Tickets to the new shows go on sale Friday.
Daniel Ash and Kevin Haskins — who spent large swaths of the ’80s and ’90s performing together in the seminal acts Bauhaus, Tones on Tail and Love and Rockets — are reuniting to form a new band called Poptone with Haskins’ daughter Diva that will perform the music of those three classic acts this summer.
We interrupt our regular programming for a special announcement: Tonight’s edition of “Dark Wave” — the Sunday night celebration of the “darker side of classic alternative” on Sirius XM’s 1st Wave — will be guest-hosted by none other than David J of Bauhaus and Love and Rockets.
The debut album from Love and Rockets — 1985’s Seventh Dream of Teenage Heaven — will receive a vinyl reissue later this month via the Drastic Plastic label, which will press the seven-song album on both opaque blue vinyl and 200-gram black vinyl.
David J will tell the stories behind seminal goth-rock act Bauhaus and its successor Love and Rockets — as well as tales from his own solo career and his exploration of the occult — in a new memoir entitled “Who Killed Mister Moonlight?: Bauhaus, Black Magick and Benediction” that’s due to be published this fall.
