David Byrne today announced a massive, 80-date world tour in support of his album American Utopia, a trek that will keep him on the road from early March through the end of August, accompanied by a 12-piece band performing “the most ambitious show I’ve done since the shows that were filmed for ‘Stop Making Sense.’”
Following records with Brian Eno and St. Vincent, former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne will release his first solo album in 14 years in March, a 10-song collection called American Utopia that the singer describes as an un-ironically titled “attempt to depict the world we live in now.” Listen to the first single right here.
The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival unveiled the mammoth lineup for its two-weekend extravaganza this April, a bill that features legendary Talking Heads frontman David Byrne and 164 other musical acts, some whose names are written in really, really small type. previously unreleased and apparently never-completed 5-minute-long Talking Heads instrumental called “Theme” has surfaced online via a recording of the first of the band’s two sets opening for a pair of performances by Television at CBGB’s on the night of July 30, 1976.
In 1984, David Byrne helped put together a TV special on the Talking Heads for U.K. TV’s Channel 4, a 68-minute mix of live material filmed at Wembley Arena, interviews, TV news clips, commercials and found footage and sound — sort of a visual version of My Life in the Bush of Ghosts set to live music.
