This week’s new releases include a new live album and DVD from Depeche Mode, a Paul McCartney cover by The Cure, a new best-of from David Bowie, Nick Cave’s “20,000 Days on Earth” film, new albums from Bryan Ferry and Einstürzende Neubauten, and a collection of 1988 demos from Fugazi.

Thirty years ago this month, synthpop trio Bronski Beat released its career-making single “Smalltown Boy” — and to celebrate that milestone, the group’s lead singer, Jimmy Somerville, has recorded a haunting new stripped-down version of the song, which you can hear via a new video.

Here’s a delightful clip that made the rounds over the weekend: A guitar-slinging busker is filmed singing Bronski Beat’s 1984 single “Smalltown Boy” on a Berlin sidewalk when none other than Jimmy Somerville himself, apparently out walking his dog, stops by and pitches it.

This week’s new releases include the U.K. edition of ‘A Diamond in the Mind,’ the new concert CD and live Blu-ray and DVD filmed on the band’s 2011 tour, plus expanded reissues of three Jimmy Sommerville albums, including the debut by Bronski Beat (‘The Age of Consent’) plus both Communards records (‘Communards,’ ‘Red’).

Jimmy Somerville’s three mid-’80s studio albums with synthpop groups Bronski Beat and the Communards each will be reissued this summer as expanded double-disc sets loaded with a host of B-sides, remixes, live tracks and more — with some of the material making its way to CD for the first time ever.

Rewind Scotland — The ’80s Festival will return for a second year this July, featuring 24 acts spread over two days — including sets by Holly Johnson of Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Bronski Beat’s Jimmy Sommerville, Squeeze, Midge Ure, Lightning Seeds, Marc Almond, ABC and Roland Gift of Fine Young Cannibals.
