Welcome to the Week in Rock, where we round up all of the headlines posted on this site over the past week. This edition includes items about The Fixx, Bob Mould, The Cure, Depeche Mode, Gary Numan, Black Francis, Kristin Hersh, Sonic Youth, The Jam and more — plus a special mixtape.

Last Friday night, a group of Boston-bred artists gathered at the Pleasant Street Theater to throw a party in honor of the venue as it closes after 30 years. Among those performing: Pixies frontman Black Francis and Throwing Muses leader Kristin Hersh, who together performed the Pixies’ “Wave of Mutilation.”

This week’s new releases include new albums from The Fixx (‘Beautiful Friction’), Soul Asylum (‘Delayed Reaction’) and Susanna Hoffs (‘Someday’), plus a new live album from Black Francis, a 2CD best-of from Blancmange, a reissue of Stan Ridgway’s ‘Mosquitos’ and a reissue of Peter Gabriel’s ‘Secret World Live’ film.

This week’s round-up of Slicing Up Eyeballs headlines includes news about Talking Heads, Public Image Ltd., Pulp, Squeeze, Joey Ramone, Dalis Car, Heaven 17, Husker DU’s Grant Hart, Morrissey and Howard Jones — plus a new The Smiths box set giveaway.

This fall, American Laundromat Recordings will celebrate the soundtrack to the 1984 cult classic ‘Repo Man’ with a track-by-track tribute, featuring the likes of Black Francis, Mike Watt, Matthew Sweet and Amanda Palmer and more covering songs originally recorded by Iggy Pop, Black Flag, Circle Jerks and Suicidal Tendencies.

The Pixies have yet to record a new album since reuniting in 2004, but frontman Black Francis has been no stranger to the recording studio in those intervening years, and, in April, will release ‘Let the People Speak,’ his second effort with wife Violet Clark as the indie/electropop duo Grand Duchy.

This week’s new releases include new, live and reissued albums, singles and EPs from the likes of Peter Murphy, Bjork, Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush, the Pixies’ Black Francis, The B-52s, Erasure and Talk Talk.

Before taking the Pixies back out on the road this fall for more ‘Doolittle’ dates, frontman Black Francis will embark on a short solo-acoustic tour of his own — beginning tonight — and he’ll follow that up in September with a brand-new studio album he recorded as a duo with singer-songwriter Reid Paley.

The Pixies’ classic album ‘Doolittle’ was released exactly 22 years ago today, and to commemorate that college-rock milestone, check out this full concert filmed just a month later in Athens, Greece, and broadcast on Greek TV.

This week’s new releases include brand-new albums from Dinosaur Jr’s J Mascis and Eleventh Dream Day, plus the Pet Shop Boys’ ballet score, Black Francis’ silent-film score, the monster reissue of Primal Scream’s ‘Screamadelica’ and a new edition of Nick Lowe’s ‘Labour of Lust.’

Friday, a half-dozen local bands gathered in Springfield, Mo., to play Pixies songs, an otherwise run-of-the-mill tribute night except for one thing: Black Francis and his wife, former Springfielder Violet Clark, returned the favor, sending along their own video tribute to the midwestern city.
