Tonight’s episode of Slicing Up Eyeballs on Strangeways Radio featured new music from Simple Minds, The Fixx and Peter Murphy, plus old favorites from The Jesus and Mary Chain, Oingo Boingo, Sebadoh, Skinny Puppy, Joe Strummer and Love and Rockets.

Slicing Up Eyeballs checks in once again with Peter Hook on the eve of bringing Joy Division’s ‘Closer’ to the U.S., and the bassist says he may next perform ‘Still’ — and could even dip into New Order’s catalog ‘to annoy Bernard even more.’

Peter Murphy will return to the United States for a third round of dates this year when he brings his ongoing tour in support of ‘Ninth’ back for a run of shows throughout November and into early December with up-and-coming modern rockers She Wants Revenge.

Thought we’d get the long Labor Day weekend out of the way before dropping the third installment in our series of Auto Reverse mixtapes — two 45-minute sides to help ease back into the work week, and September in general.

A fall 2011 release for My Bloody Valentine’s reissue of ‘Loveless’ certainly seemed to make sense, given the 20th anniversary of its original release looms on Nov. 4. Yet it’s not to be: the reissues of ‘Loveless’ and its precursor ‘Isn’t Anything’ have been pushed into 2012.

Five years after splitting up, New Order will reunite — with a lineup featuring keyboardist Gillian Gilbert, but not bassist Peter Hook — for a pair of live shows this October in Paris and Brussels to benefit ailing artist and film producer Michael Shamberg.

This week’s new releases include the ‘White Heat’ best-of from Australia’s Icehouse, plus a vinyl reissue of Ministry’s ‘Psalm 69: The Way to Succeed and the Way to Suck Eggs’ and the first-ever CD release of ‘Gonna Get You,’ the second album from Freeez.
