Make room on those coffee tables, college-rock fans: Both The Replacements and Dinosaur Jr will be the subject of new oversized, photo-laden hardback books due to published this November, with the former compiled by the author of the recent ‘Mats oral history, and the latter authorized by the band itself.
On Friday, Ministry debuted the video for new single “PermaWar,” and while bandleader Al Jourgensen gave the clip a cursory plug on his recently launched Facebook page, he was preoccupied with something far more pressing: a “Caddyshack”-like battle against a “thug gang of asshole raccoons.”
This week’s new releases include ‘5 Albums’ box sets from The Fall, The Icicle Works and Buffalo Tom, plus a 95-track digital ‘box set’ from The Replacements, the second album from Peter Buck’s Tired Pony, a new EP from John Foxx and Jori Hukkonen, and a vinyl reissue of Elvis Costello’s Brutal Youth.
Tonight’s edition of “Dark Wave” on Sirius XM’s 1st Wave featured music by Tubeway Army, The Sound, Joy Division, Laibach, The Cramps, Nitzer Ebb, Killing Joke, Cocteau Twins, The Essence, Japan, Love and Rockets, Skeletal Family, The The, Acid Horse and much, much more.

Rewind: The 80s Festival is underway this weekend in the U.K., and the fest is webcasting some of the acts on its two-day lineup, including performances later today by The B-52s and Heaven 17. It’s not yet known which bands will be streamed on Sunday, but the second-day lineup does include ABC, Blancmange and more.
With the long-awaited reunion of The Replacements now less than 10 days away, we’ve now finally got official word of who’ll be joining Paul Westerberg and Tommy Stinson on stage at Riot Fest in Toronto: drummer Josh Freese and guitarist David Minehan, both of whom played with Westerberg on his early ’90s solo tours.
