Last week, Fire Records announced a “special ongoing partnership” with New Zealand indie-pop legends The Chills that it headlined “The Past, The Present, The Future.” Now, as bandleader Martin Phillipps celebrates his 50th birthday this week, the label has premiered the band’s first new music in nine years: “Molten Gold.”

The Dead Milkmen return this week with the fourth in their new series of limited-edition 7-inch singles — this one’s called “Welcome to Undertown” — and you can now stream both songs off the vinyl single (the title track and “Streetlamps”) as well as the digital-only bonus track, “The Sun Turns Our Patio Into a Lifeless Hell.”

Peter Buck plans to release something he’s calling a new “monkey concept single” in the coming weeks on vinyl label Mississippi Records as well as re-press his 2012 solo debut — but without the song “LVMF,” because he only cleared its profane Sonny Boy Williamson sample for the album’s first 2,000 copies.

She may be busy with her Breeders reunion and Last Splash box set, but Kim Deal’s still got time to churn out new music — the latest being the second installment of her new “Solo Series” 7-inches, a two-song single that’s now available digitally and can be pre-ordered on vinyl.

Ex-Orange Juice frontman Edwyn Collins re-teams with The Heartbreaks for a 7-inch single to be released in the U.K. for Record Store Day this Saturday — and you can stream both tracks. Side A is a new song by Collins and the band while the B side is a new version of the Orange Juice’s “Untitled Melody.”

The Primitives today released a new single — it’s out digitally now in the U.K., and will be followed by a limited-edition 7-inch in the U.S. and Europe next month — called “Lose the Reason,” and you can hear the track right now via its just-debuted music video. The song arrives in the U.S. on 7-inch on March 4.

Duran Duran today announced it will mark the 30th anniversary of the band’s first U.K. No. 1 single — “Is There Something I Should Know?,” released on March 9, 1983 — by reissuing the single as a limited-edition blue-vinyl 7-inch for Record Store Day, which this year falls on April 20.

Butthole Surfers frontman Gibby Haynes next week will release a 7-inch single via Jack White’s Third Man Records, the label announced today, unveiling the three-song record that features two originals and a cover of Adrenalin OD’s “Paul’s Not Home” off the 1982 New York Thrash compilation.

After raising more than $100,000 through an auction of limited-edition, autographed 10-inches, The Replacements will release their Songs for Slim benefit/reunion EP to the masses beginning March 5, when the 5-song set will be sold digitally to be followed on April 16 by a commercial 12-inch pressing.

Depeche Mode hasn’t offered much information yet on its upcoming 13th studio album — it’s due in March, but no title, tracklist or cover art has been revealed — but that could soon be changing as the band is expected to release “Heaven,” the record’s first single, on Feb. 5, according to listings at Amazon sites worldwide.

The Pet Shop Boys will usher in 2013 with the release of “Memory of the Future,” the third single off their latest album Elysium, on Jan. 1 in two different download bundles, featuring a number of new remixes of the track as well as three new B-sides — one of which, “One Night,” is being premiered today here at Slicing Up Eyeballs.
