Punk icons X celebrated today’s 40th anniversary of their landmark debut Los Angeles by surprise-releasing Alphabetland, the band’s first album in 27 years and the first recorded by its original lineup — Exene Cervenka, John Doe, Billy Zoom and D.J. It took The Cravats — skronky veterans of U.K. punk’s fabled Class of 1977 — some 37 years to follow up their debut album The Cravats in Toytown with sophomore LP Dustbin of Sound. Another week, another concert announcement: The Bauhaus reunion continues to roll out one show at a time, with the latest being news of a late-September concert in Atlanta. The reunion of goth-rock legends Bauhaus continues to expand in drips and drabs, this time with the announcement of a late-September concert in Denver — the first sign the band’s plans for 2020 may stretch into the second half of the year. Full details and ticket information right here.

It’s taken 34 years since their first gig, but U.K. indie-pop act The Flatmates — a C86-era band that landed a string of singles on the indie chart’s top 10 through the late-’80s — are releasing their debut album, and we’ve got their new single, “You Held My Heart.” Hear that song, and another one off the album, here.

Midnight Oil is planning to release not one but two new musical projects this year, beginning with an eight-song mini-album called The Makaratta Project recorded with “some of our First Nations friends” to be released this summer, followed by a proper Oils studio album due out later in the year, according to the band’s website.

Reunited Scottish indie-pop favorites Close Lobsters — immortalized on the NME’s genre-defining C86 compilation cassette — next week will release their first new album in 31 years, a 10-song collection that’s preceded by the release of two tracks: “Godless” and “All Compasses Go Wild.”
