Morrissey has formally announced that his concert film “Morrissey 25: Live,” filmed at Hollywood High last March, will receive a “worldwide cinema release” in August to mark his 25th year as a solo artist. The film also will be released on DVD — Moz’s first such release in nine years.

While we’ve posted this before — more than three years ago, in fact — The Cure’s Robert Smith has yet to follow through with his announcement of a DVD release of “The Cure in Orange,” so, as it remains sadly out of print, we once again present the full 1987 concert film, thanks to the miracle of YouTube.

With two weeks left to go, the producers of a documentary called “Dare To Be Different” — which aims to tell the story of hugely influential New York alternative station WLIR 92.7 FM — are more than $12,000 short of their fundraising goal, and are still hoping to lure fans with a variety of donor perks.

Britain’s BBC Two last weekend aired a new, 90-minute documentary by Francis Whatley called “David Bowie: Five Years” that, as its title suggests, examines five key years in the Thin White Duke’s career (the years in question all fall between 1971 to 1983. The Church next week will release “Long Distance Century Buzzes and Fades,” a 23-years-in-the-making documentary of the band’s 1990 world tour in support of Gold Afternoon Fix that frontman Steve Kilbey assembled from more than 13 hours of raw footage he filmed with a then-new Super 8 camera.

Filmmakers Michael Santorelli and Laurel Harris recently launched a Kickstarter campaign seeking to raise $50,000 to help fund their documentary “Get Off This: A Film About Music and Perseverance,” which aims to document the life and music of David Lowery, frontman of Camper Van Beethoven and Cracker.

Twenty years after its creation, Nine Inch Nails mastermind Trent Reznor today finally released “Broken ,” the 20-minute, highly graphic short film directed by Peter Christopherson. Reznor posted the movie to NIN’s Vimeo channel today, warning that it contains “extreme violent and sexual content.”

The documentary chronicling the rise, fall and improbable resurrection of The Stone Roses hits U.K. theaters in June, and now fans finally can get their first glimpse of “The Stone Roses: Made of Stone” via the official trailer. Directed by Shane Meadows, the film will premiere May 30 in Manchester.

Three years ago, we reported on plans to release a fan-produced concert film documenting Nine Inch Nails’ purportedly final concert: a monster 3.5-hour, 37-song set performed Sept. 10, 2009, at Los Angeles’ Wiltern Theatre. Now, with Trent Reznor having just announced plans to reunite NIN, the film is here.

Gorman Bechard, director of the 2011 documentary “Color Me Obsessed: A Film About The Replacements,” is putting the finishing touches on a new film called “Every Everything” about former Hüsker Dü drummer, singer and songwriter Grant Hart — and he’s once again turning to fans for financial support for the project.

Fans still waiting for the long-promised DVD of 2011’s Wax Trax! Records Retrospectacle: 33⅓ Year Anniversary concert got good and bad news this week: While the concert film still isn’t finished, a new documentary is in the works that promises to chronicle the “rise and fall of Wax Trax! Records.”

New Wave star Adam Ant’s comeback continues this spring with the release of a documentary titled “The Blue Black Hussar,” which promises to chronicle the singer’s “brave return from exile” following a mental breakdown. Above, you can check out a short trailer for the film (via Louder Than War).

It’s bordering on criminal that the 2010 documentary “Upside Down: The Creation Records Story” still has not been released on DVD and Blu-ray in the U.S., but, for fans not willing to jump through hoops to watch an import Region 2 DVD, the entire film is available on YouTube for your viewing and/or rocking pleasure.
