There may have been no Smiths reunion at Coachella once again this year, but they were there in spirit as guitarist Johnny Marr played the festival’s first day, whipping out three classics by his former band — including the indelible “There Is a Light That Never Goes Out,” which you can see here.
The first of Coachella’s two weekends kicks off tonight in the California desert, and, once again, the massive festival is livestreaming some of its lineup’s sets via YouTube. Siouxsie will return to the concert stage this summer after a five-year absence to perform at the Yoko Ono-curated Meltdown festival at London’s Southbank Centre, an event that also will feature sets by Patti Smith, Iggy & The Stooges, Boy George, and both Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore.
As fully expected after last week’s big leak, the lineup for this summer’s Lollapalooza festival in Chicago was announced today, with headliners that include The Cure and Nine Inch Nails, as well as an appearance by New Order. Check out the full lineup; single day tickets on sale Wednesday.
We’ve already speculated as to why there’s a good chance we’ll see The Cure and New Order on the bill of August’s Lollapalooza, and now comes a photo of what’s purported to be a poster featuring the Chicago festival’s yet-to-be-announced lineup, headlined by Robert Smith and Co.
The lineup for this summer’s Glastonbury festival was announced today, and it’s an utter monstrosity, with headliners The Rolling Stones, Arctic Monkeys and Mumford & Sons joined by a seemingly endless list of bands, including Primal Scream, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Elvis Costello, Billy Bragg and more.
The Cure and New Order each will return to North America this summer, as both bands were announced this week as headliners at Montreal’s three-day Osheaga Festival Musique et Arts in early August — a billing that will put the two legendary acts just hours away from Chicago, which hosts Lollapalooza that same weekend.
