We’re still more than a month out from the release of The Mission’s The Brightest Light, but the band this week premiered the first full track off the record: “Drag,” a song Wayne Hussey describes as a “throwaway” blues rocker that was so fun to play that he ended up finding a place or it on the album.

With drummer Malcolm Holmes’ onstage health scare now (thankfully) behind the band, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark is moving forward with promotion of its new album English Electric — namely the release of the LP’s third single, “Night Café,” which is due out next month.

Kitchens of Distinction on Wednesday formally announced the release this fall of their first new album in 19 years, then proceeded to debut the first track off that collection — “Japan to Jupiter” — on Steve Lamacq’s show on BBC’s 6 Music. Gary Numan this week debuted the first single off his long-in-the-works album Splinter — his first studio album in seven years, which has now received an added parenthetical (Songs From a Broken Mind) to its title — in advance of his upcoming U.S tour and dates with Nine Inch Nails.

The unlikely pairing of Elvis Costello and The Roots this week debuted the first fruit of their new collaboration, premiering on Pitchfork the single and lyric video for “Walk Us Uptown,” the first single off the forthcoming Wise Up Ghost. The album is due out Sept. 17 on Blue Note Records.

Kitchens of Distinction will release its first new studio album in 19 years — the band ‘s fifth overall and first since 1994′s Cowboys and Aliens — on Sept. 30, and the band’s label this morning debuted the first taste of the new KOD music in the form of a 30-second snippet of an instrumental version of the album’s opening track.

Following the announcement this week that The Mission will release its new studio album The Brightest Light this September, the band today has shared a streaming sampler to let fans get short tastes of the album’s 11 songs. The new album is due out Sept. 17 in North America.
