The U.K.’s Fire Records next month will release a new 2CD career-spanning overview of resurrected Boston post-punk legends Mission of Burma, compiling 29 tracks from both halves of the band’s career to serve both as an introduction and a preface to the label’s upcoming full-catalog reissue series.

Last week came news that classic college-rock combo Camper Van Beethoven is set to return early next year its first album in more than eight years, and now we’ve got our first taste of ‘La Costa Perdida’ in the form of the song “Northern California Girls,” which premiered this week at Billboard.com.

Cherry Red Records today offered up a third previously unreleased demo off its upcoming 3CD expanded reissue of the self-titled 1988 debut from The House of Love — this time frontman Guy Chadwick’s original demo of “Shine On,” the band’s first single. Check it out here.

Just in time for Election Day, nerd-pop duo They Might Be Giants have dusted off a song they originally recorded during the 2008 presidential campaign called “Vote Or Don’t,” and have produced a new music video for the track, which you can see here, and are offering it as a free MP3 download.

Not only is Public Image Ltd. back in action these days, but two of that band’s key early members — bassist Jah Wobble and guitarist Keith Levene — have reunited to record their first full-length collaboration since PiL’s classic 1979 album ‘Metal Box.’ You can stream and/or download the set’s rather profane opening track here.

The Dead Milkmen are celebrating Halloween today by debuting three new songs off the first in a new series of 7-inch singles online — but only until midnight. The tracks include “Dark Clouds Gather Over Middlemarch” and “Ronald Reagan Killed the Black Dahlia,” off the 7-inch itself, and a bonus digital track.

Depeche Mode opened today’s press conference in Paris with an in-studio video set to the sounds of an as-yet-unnamed new song — although it seems likely it’ll be called “Angel of Love” — and you can now hear the track in its entirety via the clip posted above. Public Image Ltd. brought its U.S. tour to Minneapolis tonight, and before John Lydon and Co. played their headlining date, the band stopped by the studios of The Current to record a three-song session. With their reunion tour set to open tonight in Denver, Australian Simon Bonney’s resurrected art-rock group Crime and the City Solution — which, during the ’80s, included members of The Birthday Party, Swell Maps and Einstürzende Neubauten — today debuted its first new music in 22 years.

Sonic Youth today offered up the first taste of its forthcoming archival live album, ‘Smart Bar – Chicago 1985,’ in the form of ‘Bad Moon Rising’ opening combo “Intro/Brave Men Run (In My Family),” which you can check right here. The full album is due out Nov. 14.
