Fire Records this fall will release a box set — or, rather, a “bookback” set, as the label’s dubbed it — called The Wasted Years that will collect the first four studio albums by The Jazz Butcher, the long-running U.K. indie-pop outfit helmed by Pat Fish. The year of The Jam’s birth — 1977, the year punk broke — will be celebrated this fall with a 40th anniversary 5-disc box set, aptly titled 1977, that will include the band’s first two albums, a disc of demos, a collection of Peel session recordings and live tracks, and a DVD of TV appearances. The third in Parlophone’s series of career-spanning David Bowie box sets will be released in September as a 11 CD, 13 LP or digital download edition that features everything Bowie released between 1977 and 1982, including rarities and a new mix of Lodger by producer Tony Visconti. Cherry Red Records has finalized the tracklist for its massive Manchester North of England box set, a 7-disc collection due out next month that features 146 songs spanning 1977 to 1993 by such fabled Mancunians as Joy Divison, New Order, The Stone Roses, Morrissey (but not The Smiths), The Fall and Oasis. Back in February, when Midnight Oil announced its global reunion tour, the band also revealed plans for not one but three giant box sets: a collection of the band’s 13 albums and EPs on vinyl, another compiling those releases on CD plus a DVD of videos, and a third featuring a truckload of unreleased material.

Cherry Red Records continues its series of imagined sequels to the NME’s famed C86 cassette with the release this summer of C88, a three-disc box set featuring music released in 1988 by then-indie acts such as The Stone Roses, The House of Love, Kitchens of Distinction, The Vaselines and more.
