Johnny Marr, Dave Grohl join Pretenders for raucous “Tattooed Love Boys” at Glastonbury

Johnny Marr — who played briefly in the Pretenders after leaving The Smiths — sat in with Chrissie Hynde and Co. for part of their set at Glastonbury on Saturday, with Dave Grohl joining as well to help the band rip through “Tattooed Love Boys” off 1979’s Pretenders.

Hynde had some fun introducing the chief Foo Fighter, telling the crowd: “Apparently there’s a drunk hanging around backstage and we’ve asked security to get rid of him, but he’s a big guy and I don’t want any trouble. He insists on playing, so come on up, Dave Grohl.”

Marr, who notably did not join Rick Astley and Blossoms as they played an all-Smiths set at the festival on Saturday, played on the last six songs of the Pretenders’ 15-song set, including “Back on the Chain Gang,” “Don’t Get Me Wrong,” “I’ll Stand By You” and “Mystery Achievement.”

Now in their fifth decade, the Pretenders will release their 14th album, Relentless, in September.
