Frankie Goes to Hollywood’s original lineup performs live for first time in 36 years

The original lineup of Brit synthpop stars Frankie Goes to Hollywood reunited onstage in Liverpool on Sunday for the first time in 36 years, performing just one song — “Welcome to the Pleasuredome” — as part of a concert kicking off this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.

The full group — Holly Johnson, Paul Rutherford, Mark O’Toole, Brian Nash and Peter Gill — hadn’t performed since breaking up in 1987, though there had been some 2000s-era partial reunions.

They played the title track to their smash 1984 album, but not their biggest hits “Relax” or “Two Tribes.” The BBC reported that fans were puzzled by the brevity of the performance, and that there “were muted cheers, as disbelieving murmurs rose from the audience” when the band left the stage.

It’s not known whether Frankie Goes to Hollywood’s reunion will continue beyond this one appearance.

See that performance below.
