The irascible Mark E. Smith — who celebrates his 53rd birthday today — next month will release his 28th studio album under the banner of The Fall, the ragged, love-’em-or-hate-’em postpunk act that has churned through dozens of members since bursting onto the U.K. music scene in 1976.
Due out April 26 on CD, double LP and as a digital download, the nine-track Your Future Our Clutter is the band’s first release on Domino Records. This time out, Smith is joined by the same lineup that helped record the last Fall album, 2008’s Imperial Wax Solvent: his wife Elena Poulou on keyboards and vocals, Dave “The Eagle” Spurr on bass, Peter “P.P.” Greenway on guitar and Keiron Melding on drums.
To mark the disc’s release, the Fall has set a 14-date U.K. tour in late April and May (see tour dates below). The band also is due for a pair of reissues this year, as Beggars Archive plans to release expanded editions 1984’s The Wonderful and Frightening World of the Fall and 1985’s This Nation’s Saving Grace.
