David Byrne today announced plans for a short run of East Coast concerts next March at which he’ll test out a new stage concept that he’s calling his most ambitious since the 1983 tour by Talking Heads that Jonathan Demme documented with the film “Stop Making Sense.”
The six concerts are planned for March 3 through 10 in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York and Connecticut; tickets for all of them go on sale at 10 a.m. ET Friday.
In a post on his Facebook page, Byrne says he’s building the stage show around the “idea that everyone in the band might be mobile… so there would be no risers, drum platform or any of that stuff.” The amps and other gear would then be hidden behind what sounds like a chain-link curtain at the back of the stage, upon which projections could be screened as well.
Byrne writes:
“The band and I will be testing all of this in front of a live audience during a small number of shows in the beginning of March. We’ll be doing some new songs… and many others that will, I assume, be familiar. I’m excited. This is the most ambitious show I’ve done since the shows that were filmed for Stop Making Sense, so fingers crossed.”
