Morrissey announces new album ‘Low in High-School,’ plus Hollywood Bowl concert

Morrissey today announced the release of his first album in three years and 11th overall as a solo artist, a collection titled Low in High-School that will arrive Nov. 17 via his new Etienne Records imprint on the BMG label, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Low in High-School was recorded at La Fabrique Studios in southern France and at Ennio Morricone’s Forum Studios in Rome. Like its trouble-plagued 2014 predecessor World Peace is None of Your Business, the ex-Smiths frontman’s new album was produced by Joe Chiccarelli.

The album is to be released on CD, colored vinyl, limited-edition cassette and digital formats.

In a news release announcing the album, BMG Executive Vice President Korda Marshall says:

“There are not many artists around today that can compare to Morrissey. He is an extraordinary talent. He is prodigious, literate, witty, elegant and above all, courageous. His lyrics, humor and melodies have influenced many generations. The music on this new landmark record will speak for itself and we are delighted to welcome him to BMG.”

Morrissey’s last album was marred by the singer’s squabbling with his label, Harvest Records, over the record’s promotion. The singer alleged the imprint “sorrily botched” World Peace’s release, and the album, at least for a time, was pulled from the market as the two sides parted ways.

Moz’s new records will arrive just a few weeks after the deluxe, expanded reissue of The Smiths’ classic 1986 album The Queen is Dead. That release will include unreleased demos and an unissued live album.

As for touring plans, Morrissey has announced one date — Nov. 10 at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles — and is expected to reveal more in the future. A presale for the Hollywood Bowl concert already is underway, with the general public on-sale set for 10 a.m. PDT Friday.
