Andrew Eldritch is rolling out The Sisters of Mercy for at least one performance so far in 2014, with the band confirmed to play the metal/hard-rock heavy Sonisphere festival at Knebworth Park, England, on July 5 in what appears to be the goth-rock legends’ first performance since wrapping up 30th anniversary dates in the summer of 2012.
The Sisters will join headliners The Prodigy, Iron Maiden and Metallica, as well as Limp Bizkit, Alice in Chains and Slayer, at the festival, which takes place July 4-6. Tickets are now on sale.
Eldtritch, Doktor Avalanche and whoever else is in the group these days were fairly active in 2011 and 2012, playing a number of anniversary dates across Europe, Japan, Australia, South America and Mexico.
It’s not clear what the band’s 2014 touring plans entail; the Sisters’ extremely rudimentary website only lists the Sonisphere date.

yes, the website is rudimentary but it has the lyrics to “I have slept with all the girls in Berlin” on it, which is just….crazy good
I hope they change there live stage presence.
They are one of my favorite bands, but seeing them with that constant fog machine and no rapport with the audience and no theatrics made me sad.
When I saw them a few years ago, they pathetically bad. I can’t imagine things have improved.
Agreed. It’s a shame that Eldritch has decided that simply playing a show once a year or so is enough. He should realize that the Sister’s legacy is pretty much “that band that used to be amazing, but is dead now.”
This should be their new name “Eldtritch, Doktor Avalanche and whoever else is in the group these days” and leave the name Sisters in peace. This karaoke version gets worse as the years go by
The thing is: the new songs (like “I have slept with all the girls in Berlin,” mentioned above, “Summer,” “We Are the Same, Suzanne,” “Crash & Burn,” and “Still,” just to name a few) are seriously good. They’re really good songs.
Unfortunately, the only way to hear them is dodgy bootleg recordings. This is particularly sad because such recordings are not of the best quality. The songs, quite honestly, deserve better than that. They really are that good, and it is a shame that they haven’t been recorded.
Confession: my band recorded a cover of “Will I Dream?” some years ago, and released it online under the enormously clever name “Not the Sisters.”
Some people, who couldn’t understand the name, thought we were the Sisters taking the piss. Ugh. Some people thought my vocal was Von’s (sorry Von. It was mixed too low for them to hear. My voice is wracked shit. Yours isn’t).
The unreleased songs deserve to be recorded well.
I disagree. I saw them last year at one of the Australian shows, and they were really, really good. ‘Vision Thing’ started an incredible mosh on the dance floor… One of my favourite concert moments from last year!
Andrew must be behind on his mortgage payments again…..
I hear the new songs are great, too. Which is a shame, since the Sisters of Mercy have become a Sisters of Mercy cover band. Andrew has really never held his own audience in very high regard, and his refusal to record is just one example. The Sisters were once “the most bootlegged band in the world,” and now he won’t release an album because it might get bootlegged?
