The Cure’s Robert Smith: ‘4.13 Dream’ follow-up ‘slowly taking shape’

A day after we learned The Cure’s Robert Smith has recorded a rare solo track for Tim Burton’s live-action “Alice in Wonderland,” the frontman posted an all-caps update on the band’s site revealing several tidbits: He’s recorded a cover for a tribute to late British singer-songwriter John Martyn; he’s got “a couple or three other ‘collaborations'” on deck; and “there is an ‘exclusive’ iTunes album still in the works.”

Most intriguingly, Smith reports on the so-called “Dark Album,” the companion piece to 2008’s 4:13 Dream that he’s hinted at, saying: “…and part two of the ‘Dream’ sessions is slowly taking shape.” Perhaps in reference to the band’s  lack of a record label, he closes by saying, “There is however a lot of flux around… so more real news when the air clears.”
