Omnivore Recordings this fall will release the soundtrack to the cult 1987 documentary “Athens, GA – Inside/Out” — which chronicled the music scene that spawned R.E.M., The B-52s and more — on CD for the first time, packaging it with a DVD of the film and five bonus tracks, two of which are billed as “previously unheard performances.”
Due out Oct. 9, the CD/DVD package includes a fully remastered version of the long out-of-print soundtrack LP expanded to include tracks featured in the film — which was made up of interviews and performances — but not originally included on the album, plus tracks from the sessions for the film that weren’t included at all — including a “newly found” performance cover of the Rolling Stones‘ “Shattered” by Love Tractor with Peter Buck on guitar.
The DVD features a number of bonuses, including commentary by director Tony Gayton, testimonials on the film’s impact by Dave Schools of Widespread Panic and more, a 2003 interview with Kate Pierson and Cindy Wilson of The B-52s, and bonus scenes.
