“Dark Wave,” hosted by Slicing Up Eyeballs’ Matt Sebastian, explores the darker side of classic ’80s alternative, including vintage goth, post-punk and industrial. The shows airs at 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Eastern every Sunday on Sirius XM satellite radio’s 1st Wave (Channel 33).

The most recent two episodes are also available to subscribers to stream via the Sirius XM app.

Got a request? Requests will be considered for future episodes as long as they fit the show’s format and fall generally within the 1st Wave era — and provided the host doesn’t harbor an intense dislike of the song. If there’s something you’d like to hear, drop it in the comments below.

  10. Splendid show last night! Highlights included the double dose of Magazine (one via that blistering Ministry cover version), Swell Maps, Gun Club, Suicide, and Wire. Lovely anniversary shoutout to Tina and her hubby, that was sweet.

I’d forgotten about that Bauhaus cover of ‘Sprit in the Sky’. It reminded me of how amazing it was to see them live on the last tour before it imploded and how the encore was a block of their best covers. But one I would have loved to hear, they did not play. Request for a future communion: could you dig up the live version of ‘Waiting for the Man’ off the Press the Eject album, the one with Nico on vocals?

Have a great week Matt, cheers!

  11. Wow Matt thank you so much – very kind of you take the time to play our anniversary requests. Shaun laughed when you mentioned what a regular requester I was – he probably thinks I drive you nuts!!!! I certainly hope I do not!! (◠‿◕)
A really awesome program this week I especially loved hours 1&2!!! I think I’ll spare ya my possible suggestions this week and simply convey my eternal thanks for you and your program.

    GO BILLS!

  12. Always an excellent show. My request would be “Spiderwebs” by low Sunday.

  13. Great one this week!

With the passing of Bruce Loose, I’d like to suggest a Flipper song he had lead vocals on, such as “The Light, the Sound, the Rhythm, the Noise” or whichever of your choosing.
And perhaps even a cover of theirs, such as Lords of Acid’s take on “Sex Bomb”.
Such a great band with great influence on many of the DW artists played here each Sunday evening.

    Thanks!

  14. kicked it off with a banger and had great flow throughout – those last 3 tracks especially. Thanks for another fantastically dark show!

  15. Hey Matt,

In honor of the Deftones’ new album, can you play their cover of the Cure’s “If Only Tonight We Could Sleep”? Thanks & Cheers!

  16. Great show Matt, thanks!

  17. Erich Haring

Amazing line up tonight! I’d love to hear “Yr Body Is Nothing” by Boy Harsher on one of these communions. I think it’d spice them up with a newer artist every once in a while!

  18. Another stellar show! Thank you for including my request for Suicide. Other standouts include JAMC, Wire, the Bunnymen, Cabaret Voltaire, double shot of Magazine, NIN, and The House of Love.

Request for an upcoming episode: I’m in a punk mood…Yes, I know not really Dark Wave… but I’m taking a shot…
    Social Distortion “Mommy’s Little Monster”

    Have a wonderful week!

  19. Hey Matt – another great show. The selections have been so on point and oddly I find myself hearing tracks that I don’t remember from back in the day. Amazing content.

Have an usual “out of obscurity” request for you if you feel like chucking it in one night – The Clay People – “Pariah” (but specifically the “Plow Encroach Remix by Swamp Terrorists”)…a classic example of the best of both worlds.

    Thanks!

    Dave W.
    Long Branch, NJ

  20. Maaaaaat, you never cease to amaze!Where there is light there is Dark & where there is Dark there is Dark Wave(&Matt Sebastian)You pulled out alk the stops and most of my favs, and requests too, much obliged. Here are more to take in and consider, again, all the best!Till Sunday night…

  21. Okay I like any version of this song but this specific version just blows me away every time I hear it. And I just want other people to hear its greatness.
The song is “ Downs of a feminine balloon” (Peel session version) by Mercury Rev
If you can play this it would be wonderfully awesome Thanks Matt.

    • Oooh second this! “Downs Are Feminine Balloons” would prob fit nicely into a Shoegaze block… and we all love our cherished Shoegaze blocks here on DarkWave SXM on Sunday nights!! :-)

  22. Just got back from several weeks of travel and looking forward to catching up on the shows I missed. Set list this week looks amazing.

Can you play “Yes” from Click Click’s Bent Massive LP on a future episode?
Thanks. Have a good week Sir.

  23. Bridget Damron

Hi Matt, Please I’d like to request for my son James Damrons 18th B-Day either …Drive Blind—Ride or Summertime Rolls-Janes Addiction .Thank You

  24. Greetings Matt! Like Burney above, had a long summer away but have mostly been keeping up, lagging behind a show or so til recently. Thanks for yet another amazing one. Besides the usual heavy hitters, I greatly enjoyed hearing Swell Maps, Kendra Smith’s take on ‘Heart and Soul’… and I can’t not mention those quality Pig Face, Killing Joke, and Wire songs that sliced up hour 3.

After seeing Unwound play their 1995 album The Future of What in Brooklyn, I would like to request their song Natural Disasters off of the same album. They may be new to the Dark Wave archives, would love to hear how you add them into the mix.

    ’til the next transmission!

  25. Hey Matt!

Awesome show! … MBM followed by Severed Heads to wrap things up… this is precisely why I cannot miss this show EVER! @_@

Many thanks for the Kendra Smith spin!…. I do love her ‘dreamy’ take on “Heart and Soul”; there’s def a few other cool tracks on that ’95 ‘Means to an End’ comp. as well (we all know and love that Moby cover of New Dawn Fades, of course!) :-)

Here’s a relatively ‘deep-cut’ KJ request from ’90 : Inside the “Termite Mound” // from Extremities, Dirt, and Various Repressed Emotions. RIP Geordie, gone far too soon — but your legendary riffs will reverberate FOREVER.

    Cheers,

  26. I’m hoping this meets the criteria since she’s a Pigface alum
    Nutopia by Meg Lee Chin
    Thank you either way

  27. Hi Matt, thank you for your great show, if possible i would like to hear a belgian band call Poesie Noire, the song Radioactive Flood, thank you !

  28. Hi Matt
Can I request for your Shoegaze spot from the new Steve Queralt (Ride) album either of these songs he did with Emma Anderson (Lush). Lonely Town or Swiss Air. Thank you !!

  29. Do you happen to have a copy of Happy Days, Sweetheart by Ethyl Meatplow? I can’t find anything except “Queenie” in the digital world but I’d really like to hear “Ripened Peach” or “Devil’s Johnson” … good old creepy, speedy 90s post-x music. I’m not just requesting cos it would work well in your show, but because someone stole my CD long ago.

Keep the awesome shows coming. You are the highlight of our week at home. Every Sunday we listen to the oldest show then the new one. It takes us back to different times. I think you for your excellent show.

Vic and Lisa from Tucson, living in Columbia, Mo

  30. Hey, one more thing… you say you will play things that fit the format that you don’t harbor an intense dislike for… have you ever considered a “songs for which Matt harbors an intense dislike” show?

  31. Bizknowledges

What a fantastic setlist this week! Love how it blends deep cuts with classics — that transition from Echo & The Bunnymen into And Also the Trees in Hour 1 was perfect. Hour 2’s mix of industrial energy with softer moments like This Mortal Coil and Depeche Mode was beautifully balanced. And Hour 3 closing with The Chameleons? Chef’s kiss. Easily one of the strongest “Dark Wave” episodes yet.

  32. Hey Matt I got a request. I like to request a Jane’s Addiction song off that first live album ‘Trip Away.’ Hearing that song you played last Sunday and in light of recent events in music the man is still a visionary. From booking Siouxsue and the Banshees in 1991 to booking my favorite K-pop group TWICE and tying it in with the currently trending K-pop demon hunters film, hate him or love him the man is still a visionary. Despite the problems with his group the man still knows how to curate a festival and influence everybody else from Coachella to ACL. So yes please consider my request but we need more Jane’s Addiction on Dark Wave.
