Playlist: Sirius XM’s “Dark Wave” — hosted by Slicing Up Eyeballs (3/16/25)

The Lords of the New Church

“Dark Wave,” hosted by Slicing Up Eyeballs’ Matt Sebastian, explores the darker side of classic ’80s alternative, including vintage goth, post-punk and industrial. The shows airs at 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Eastern every Sunday on Sirius XM satellite radio’s 1st Wave (Channel 33).

The most recent two episodes are also available to subscribers to stream via the Sirius XM app.

Got a request? Requests will be considered for future episodes as long as they fit the show’s format and fall generally within the 1st Wave era — and provided the host doesn’t harbor an intense dislike of the song. If there’s something you’d like to hear, drop it in the comments below.

  12. Inspiral Carpets-Commercial Rain

  13. And another simply magnificent set. Thanks for closing out the first hour with my Bunnymen request, that was perfect. Lovely commemorations of Jeff Runnings and Brian James, both are dearly missed. I love that you sprinkled in a bit of shoegaze even though there was no shoegaze block with MBV to kick off the show and 14 iced bears to close out hour 2, plus some Spiritualized for good measure (thank you Nicole!).

That incredible pic of Kim Gordon and Bilinda Butcher on today’s page has me thinking of Sonic Youth’s ‘goth’ album as Kim put it. Could we hear ‘Starpower’ off the Evol album with Kim on lead vocals on a future show?

Have a great week Matt, cheers!

  14. Excellent and needed DW for the month of March.

  15. Jonathan Leon

    Hello Matt,
Thanks for playing Worlds Away by Stange Advance! I got a few requests.

Siouxsie and the Banshees – Lands End
    Front Line Assembly – Toxic
Ministry – I Wanted To Tell Her

  16. The Jesus Lizard – Monkey Trick (1991) Apple Music + Qobuz + Bandcamp
Jah Wobble & Keith Levene – Jags & Staffs (2012) Apple Music + Qobuz

  17. Really fun heavy show this week. personal highlights were the 1 – 2 punch opener of MBV Honey Power into The Clean, Pailhead (a long time favorite unlikely collaboration), Murder Inc. (their song played last week was also great), Spiritualized, Roland S Howard, Tuxedomoon….to name a few! Also fascinated by 14 Iced Bears, unfamiliar to me and now I want to hear more. Dare I consider their sound leaning into Dream Pop territory? Thanks, til next week!

  18. First time listening in. I really loved this show it was awesome ! A great mixture of post-punk, punk, industrial, goth, shoegaze and neo-psych. I just loved how everything was weaved in. I have never heard any radio station play The Clean, that was a kick ass choice. I would like to make a song suggestion for a future show. It is
    “Sunny Pie” by Majesty Crush.
Thank You for a wonderful show, I look forward to listening to this every Sunday night!

  19. The Verve – Star Sail

  20. Good mix this week, as per usual.

Request for a future ep: “Oigo Voces” by Psh Psh.

  21. Great show — I am loving the Clock DVA! Thanks so much for playing “No Worries.” Gorgeous song.

  22. Throbbing Gristle – Hamburger Lady

  23. Acid Horse! What a find. I clearly remember when we first received that 12 inch single at the radio station in OSU. My friends and I agreed straight off that the Cabaret Voltaire mix on the B side was a lot better than the A side version. Thank you for the memory!
Speaking of Side Trax, I’d like to request “Apathy” from the 1000 Homo DJs Supernaut EP.

  24. Cocteau Twins: Musette and Drums
