Fun Boy Three
The output of Fun Boy Three — formed by Terry Hall, Lynval Golding and Neville Staple after they left The Specials — will be collected in a new 5CD/DVD box set that includes the group’s two studio albums, plus singles, B-sides, remixes, live material and previously unreleased outtakes.
The Complete Fun Boy Three — due out Aug. 4, about seven months after Hall’s death from pancreatic cancer — will include 69 tracks spread across five CDs, plus a 27-track DVD that collects all of the band’s music videos, “Top of the Pops” performances and a live concert filmed in 1983.
The box set, packaged in a DVD-sized hardback book, is available for pre-order via Amazon.com, along with newly remastered, colored-vinyl pressings of 1982 debut The Fun Boy Three (red vinyl), 1983’s David Byrne-produced Waiting (blue vinyl) and 1984’s The Best of Fun Boy Three (green vinyl).
The first two discs of The Complete Fun Boy Three feature the group’s two studio albums, while the third disc collects singles, B-sides and outtakes, including seven previously unreleased outtakes and versions of songs. The fourth disc includes extended versions, remixes and BBC session recordings, including two more previously unreleased tracks. And the fourth disc is a 15-song concert recorded on April 6, 1983.
The short-lived trio lasted from 1981 to 1983, but scored hit singles in the U.K. with “The Lunatics (Have Taken Over The Asylum)” and the Bananarama team-ups “T’Aint What You Do (It’s The Way That You Do It)” and “Really Saying Something,” as well as “Our Lips Are Sealed,” which Hall wrote with Jane Wiedlin of The Go-Go’s, who already had had a hit with their now-classic version of the song in the U.S.
