Watch: Livestream of New Order’s Manchester International Festival set with synth orchestra

New Order tonight played the fourth of its five planned sets at the Manchester International Festival, performances that have found the band digging deep into its back catalog as it expands its arrangements with the aid of a 12-person synth orchestra.

For tonight’s show, the band allowed part of the set to be livestreamed online — and now, thanks to YouTube uploader Darren Rigby-O’Neill, we can all play back the performance. As you’ll see below, it’s a 45-minute video, although the first 7 minutes or so are a static intro screen and then an interview with artist Liam Gillick, who collaborated with New Order on the five performances.

The stream captured the last six songs of the main set: “Shellshock,” “Guilt Is A Useless Emotion,” “Subculture,” “Bizarre Love Triangle,” “Vanishing Point” and “Plastic” (full setlist).

Watch it below.

  1. Spectacular!

  2. Music sounds fine but Bernard really sounds like he’s just mailing it in.
