RELEASE: “Screamadelica Live”
BACKSTORY: Bobbie Gillespie & Co. this week deliver a CD/DVD combo and Blu-ray recording of one of their London performances last fall of the band’s 1991 landmark Screamadelica. The DVD features an CD with the Screamadelica portion of the set; the Blu-ray doesn’t feature a CD, but has a bonus documentary (see tracklist here).

RELEASE: “Ride, Rise, Roar”
BACKSTORY: More than a year after premiering at South By Southwest, the concert film documenting the creation and staging of the “Songs of David Byrne and Brian Eno” tour in 2008 and 2009 arrives on DVD and Blu-ray this week through Eagle Rock Entertainment. The film features 14 songs the ex-Talking Head created with Brian Eno (see tracklist here).

ARTIST: Peter Hook and The Light
RELEASE: Unknown Pleasures: Live in Australia
BACKSTORY: The former Joy Division bassist this week releases a live album recorded last year in Australia of his band The Light — with son Jack Bates doubling on bass — performing the classic album Unknown Pleasures in its entirety as part of his ongoing tour. The new live recording will be released on both CD and vinyl.

ARTIST: Blondie
RELEASE: Panic of Girls
BACKSTORY: The New Wave legends — anchored by original members Debbie Harry, Chris Stein and Clem Burke — this week release their long-in-the-works ninth studio album in the U.K. via a “fan pack” 132-page magazine. The standard CD will be out next week in the U.K., but not until September in the U.S. (see tracklist here).

BACKSTORY: The new album of reworked tracks from 1989’s The Sensual World and 1993’s The Red Shoes receives a slightly delayed released on CD this week in the U.S. It’s already out digitally here and came out on CD two weeks ago in the U.K. (See tracklist and stream the first single, ‘Deeper Understanding,’ here.)

BACKSTORY: The once-angry young man’s fourth album, originally released in 1980, receives a reissue this week on limited-edition, numbered, 180-gram vinyl, sourced from the original master tapes, courtesy of Mobile Fidelity. The album features “Temptation,” “I Can’t Stand Up for Falling Down,” “Clowntime is Over” and more.
